... the place that I had in mind so when we arived we set off together to find The Old Town Guesthouse. It was a decent, clean hostel that had actual rooms, not cubicles! For 250 baht a night ( less than $9) including a breakfast of toast & marmalade, banana, fresh pineapple and tea or coffee it was a really good deal. The young woman who ran it named Lek was quite a character. She was a little ditzy always muttering to herself but absolutely adorable.
Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia ericadempseyDay 2 on the lake. Wow what a beautiful morning after a morning dip and a warm shower we head off out before breakfast for a boat tour of the area and take in the early morning activities of what goes on in the jungle. We spot many monkeys playing by the waters edge and even a large hornbill flying through the canopy. Monitor lizards basking in the early morning sun as the mist rises off of the water and over the mountain peaks. I love this place! After a big breakfast ...
Kho Sok, Thailand luvlifetravelMost people come to Railay to rock climb so we had to try it. Railay is a small peninsula on main land Thailand. It is small, really pretty bays on the west surrounded by interesting rock walls and formations. We stayed on the easy bay where it smelled like garbage and sewage and had an ugly brown beach with interesting rock formations, but accommodation is much cheaper. Good thing the west side is only a ...
Railay, Thailand kytravels... for directions, showing the Thai printout, but didn't get straightforward directions. We drove on for maybe a couple of hours and when we saw the sign to Phangnga city, we knew we had missed the turn. We stopped a guy who told us to go back a few kilometers and follow the signs for the national park, which we did and found the park's visitor centre. It turned out that the hotel was just a few meters away, right on the riverbank ...

Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan, Malaysia kalle69... them!!! Haven't been in a country yet where you're still allowed to smoke on a bus. And it seems like most of the men decide the bus is a perfect place to overindulge their addiction...a constant stream of lighting up, sharing cigarettes....lighting up again...and no effort made to blow the smoke out a window....And I have to say, I've only seen men smoking in Sumatra. If the women are doing it, they're private about it...but it's a free for all ...

Got to LOVE low season shopping - the shopkeepers are just happy to make a sale at any time of the day! We half-heartedly wander around a bit more only because we're going home tomorrow but decide we've had enough. It's boiling hot and Paradise is calling. Rob is sure that the taxi driver is the same as yesterday's but I tell him he isn't ...
Phangnga, Thailand tric1003... Turns out, every single offering in the place is a penis. Yup, dildos of all sizes and shapes adorn this wacky cave. That being said, we have some funny pictures! From the phallic fortress we went to our room, got ready for dinner and headed yet again to our favorite spot that just kept turning out great food. At Viewpoint, we ate another yummy meal and then went across the street to buy our ticket out of Railay. Next stop: Bangkok!

Undeterred by the 30 or so kilometres I had put in on the bike, I decided to walk along the southern coastal road to Haad Rin. Owing to a slight misjudgement of the scale on my map, this anticipated short stroll turned into a five mile military march. Some of the gradient of the roads was 20% and I was near enough on all fours as I neared the town until a ...

The mythical sea serpent creature (it looks like a snake/dragon) is considered to be a spiritual protector so that has been one of the most common designs on many of the temples we've seen. The elephant, also prevalent in this ...
