We left Huaraz on an overnight bus on Tuesday night, arriving into Lima on Wednesday morning very early (6am). THe bus ride hadn´t been the smoothest - the road was very windy and bumpy - so we were both knackered! We got in a taxi and asked to go to Casa Del Mochilero, a place in the Lonely Planet where we'd rung the night before and reserved a few dorm beds.

We got to the place, and a woman was waiting on a balcony and ushered us in. We presumed it was the place because we´d ...

Lima, Peru strawberryk... I don’t know what happened or why but I just felt sad to say goodbye. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. 10 years had gone by the last time we said goodbye. Would it be that long again. He is more than a friend he is could have been wrong but I thought he too was getting caught up - not tears but just that it was good to see each other. What was going through his head - one will never know. But when we meet again ...
Lima, Peru iowatraveler... quick poke into one of the big churches, before a walk back to the centro and a nice meal in front of the Plaza del Aramas, before a nocturnal walk along the river. That festival´s aftermath meant that everyone was still in a partymode even tho it was a Sun, and indeed there were plenty of impromptu street entertainments, (2 comics, 1 of whom was a transvesite, in two separate pits surrounded by onlookers, and some singers ...

Lima, Lima, Peru muchapicha...

Lima, Lima, Peru inkalover... so astonishing to Percy and the family. We drove back to Ollantaytambo once more and Percy walked us to an area where we could see real Inca homes, quite like they have been for hundreds of years. The buildings are made of mud bricks, the guinea pigs are munching on long, green rye, the corn is hanging up to dry, and the ancient skulls of ancestors are prominently displayed to protect the family. Tomorrow's agenda ...
Lima, Peru livesnake... and a sea lion nursery. Then we got back on Moose and drove to Huachina a town surrounded by enormous sand dunes in the Peruvian Desert. Here we had on over night trip into the dunes on sand buggies hooning up and down the dunes with our mad driver Ricardo. Sand boarding was on the agenda here also and we managed to perfect this art without "snitzeling it" eventually after all 17 of us (our tour guide and driver Nats and Susie too) had been down ...
Lima, Peru fact... never have I seen people who need the help so much. What I really like though is the children everywhere seem happy. I hope this is a true perception and not me just seeing it through rose tinted glasses. I am supposed to stay for a week but now Im here I see that I might have to reconsider....we´ll see. When we´re not helping at any of the three programs, we have just the best deal at Lidia´s house. We are surrounded by the typical South American family and fed three times a ...
