... and the road re-opened. After pondering whether to turn around and drop me off at the SkyRail in Kuranda and catch the cable car down to Smithfield and find a way to the airport, the tow truck passed with the recovered vehicle and we made slow progress down the hill. All's well that ends well!

... down the river. The boys loved the small beach on the South-bank adjacent to the river and the Nepalese Pagoda, lit up at night, looked very pretty. We didn't know what to expect visiting Brisbane but it has certainly surpassed our expectations and though nowhere we have visited was dirty we were surprised how clean the city was. a) they are incredibly efficient - when they say a train is leaving in 2 minutes it leaves in 2 minutes, as with show start times, restaurant closing times etc etc. There is no tolerance for individuals who want to dither or ponder!
b) everyone has been exceptionally helpful and polite, so much so even our children commented on it. Seats were given us on trains, strangers in the street would see us looking a little lost and offer ...
