A small jungle trek

... same accent as Dylan Moran. He then came along to dinner with me, Nolan, Amy, and annoying Dutch girl. We had another Indian meal, then went to Traveller's round the corner for some Green Beers and a lot of random chat. Brilliantly, annoying Dutch girl left early. Tonight the bar staff had selected a real DVD treat, and our conversation was accompanied by the frankly disturbing image of Cher live in concert sprawled across the large projector screen in all its wig-obsessed glory. No need.
Tap into your Inner Mowgli

... hike Yen stopped and showed us his softer side. He talked to us about living in Malaysia and was very knowledgable about the vegetation that grew around us. After our break we then hiked through some more dense jungle and finally reached the top of the mountain. The air was crisp but the views were marred by thick clouds that gathered below. I was proud of myself for going through the jungle just as I did but couldn't help but feel a little ...

A little bit of England in Malaysia

... br>Fell asleep and woke up amongst the hills where I was heading where it's cooler. Looks a lot like the English countryside except the trees are slightly different. Cloudy and rainy. Then we started heading into some villages where there were mock Tudor houses and little tea shops doing tea and jam scones. Which was bizarre. Lots of strawberry farms and tea plantations; Pick Your Own Fruits and the like. All rather quaint.

Got ...

... its poor service.

I was not disappointed as Bala's Chalet was really typically English and even had a fireplace. The gardens were really beautifully landscaped and the setting was quiet and serene. Perfect for a holiday. Tea and scones were lovely and the best is the famous Bala's curry we had for dinner

The rooms were a bit run down but I thought it had character . No tv - which was perfect for this break because I had told the kids and Chung ...

... bus station is directly the other side and so was immediately caught by helpful men asking where I was going and as a result, passed me from man to man and eventually to the applicable ticket counter, where I was told the bus was full - buggar! However, the nice old man (every place I go seems to have old men working in it!), managed to give me the last remaining seat and so I climbed aboard the bus that happened to have just come from Penang! It probably would have been much ...

Jungle trek and tea plantations in torrential rain

... all the sights (like most people do), I opted for a jungle trek. There were 5 of us in the group and Kali, a 65 year old man, was our guide. He was great. Despite his age he was fitter than all of us and very knowledgeable. The route we took into the jungle wasn't walked by many, so we really had to fight our way through. Kali was at the front with his knife, cutting and clearing the ...

Terror Treking

... raced down to the station but no such luck so I returned to the hostel a little deflated wondering if I should try going up the mountain by myself. Fortunately I met Phil back at Daniel's Lodge who seemed quite keen to attempt the tallest mountain in the Cameron Highlands with me, so after a quick bite to eat it was off to the summit. First we needed to catch a local bus to Brinchang and we had a little time to kill before it left, so we did a little window-shopping. We ...
