Strangest bus journey in the world!

... insisted that everyone take off their shoes on entry! So we lay on our sides enveloped in smelly feet odour! Pleasant! In fairness, it was cosy and warm though! The journey passed uneventfully. A toilet stop, a cheesy kung fu movie and some snoring..... Until....

The Bus pulled up to the side of the road, a few got out. Then the bus driver decided he'd have a nap. He had a ciggarette, climbed into one of the bunks and fell asleep. For about five hours ...

The Shanxi province

... and Juliet-type love story, which ended in two young lovers dying. It was really beautiful, although it was sad to know that that story was the only story this performance hall had played since it opened and the only story it would ever perform. After dinner Mr. Cao was waiting for us and he wanted to have some more drinks. Obediently we joined him for some more wine before Jenn, thank her blessed soul, told him we were tired and ...

No where to sleep

We get dropped off at the Qingxu service station at 2:30am. There's a 24hr convenient store, we find a row of plastic seats and tries to make it until the sun comes up. We have been on the road nonstop for 18 hours, have to wait 7 more hours before we can find a bed.

Yichang and the 3 gorges

... we would come to her house for dinner. We said yes and she wrote the place to meet in chinese. At 7pm we hopped in a cab then waited at the place until she arrived. She said that she had gotten a call to go back to the gorge after she left us and it was raining with no visibility. She made us a dinner which was fun to share in her small place. I'll blog more about this later. For now it is time to catch a flight.

Taiyuan

Xian Xian Xian

Hey Blog-Dogs!!! So, we've been in Xian for four nights now and today we are moving down to Chongqing via train (let's hope this train is better than the last! We bought tickets for a hard sleeper this time rather than a hard seat). Xian has been a fantastic city to visit; the people are friendly, and they definately spit less than the people in Beijing. It will be sad to leave this city, especially since they have the ...

arrival in Taiyuan

The train arrived this morning in Taiyuan at 7AM. My tour guide was waiting for me as I walked off the train. Our first sto was for breakfast. Now that I was in a smaller city and less touristy spot, I have begun to discover that I will have to adapt a bit more. For example there are no ...

English Competition

... this thing. The next round is the teaching...unbeknownst to us is that the students will now try to teach the foreign teachers a Chinese poem and will be judged on how well the teachers pronounce the poem in Chinese! OK, so what makes the Chinese language so difficult to learn for foreigners is intonation and pronunciation. Practically every word has some accent where the sound rises or falls or shortens or elongates..I'm dreading this! Now, the unfair advantage goes to the team ...
