... and great fun. Thay also have the Original Coles Store; apparently owned and run by the father of G J Coles who founded the Coles stores. This notice board outside the store caught our eye; not the usual missing cats or dogs out here in the Tasmanian countryside. What a lot of touristy things we have been doing. We are now ready to get back into the wilderness again; the rivers and forests of the wild west await us.
Deloraine, Tasmania, Australia lizdavidPerth the shortest hitch hike ever imaginable! At the last moment on the average bus journey from Hobart to Launceston I decided to get out at Pewrth as it is where the road split to go off to Cradle mountain (the start of my treck). I worked out it would be easier to hitch hike out of here as it is hard to get out of big towns. I asked the bus driver the way, went to a garage to get some cardboard and a ...
Perth, Tasmania, Australia stubo... in up and coming entries!!! Plans for tomorrow - head to Cradle Mountain. This is where we booked our Luxury Spa Log Cabin in the tree tops so we have been looking forward to this for a while now. Fingers crossed it's all we expected (not like other places we booked such as Ben Lomond!!!) At this stage of the trip we are looking forward to seeing you all again. Until then, stay safe!! Love Kristy, Todd, Taz and now Wimby Xxooxxooxxoo
Grindelwald, Tasmania, Australia tassieoldfields... that particular winery. Pretty good we thought. So, we have 1 more bottle to go then that case is on it's way!!! Grindelwald, Tasmania, Australia tassieoldfields... the longest shower in history, washed hair and just lapped up the hot water for as long as we could. It was awesome, just had to tell you all that!!!! :o) Bed at about 9:30pm tonight (after a few too many drinks and a lovely dinner) and Todd is happy that he got his birthday wish and that was to spend his next birthday in the snow!! I don't think he'll be in a hurry to do it again mind you and next time I think (and hope ...
Ben Lomond, Australia tassieoldfields... from Queensland). Dinner and a few drinks then off to bed for us in preparation for Todd's big day on the snow tomorrow!! It was also about this time that we decided that we would cut our time in Ben Lomond short by one night and head to our next destination sooner.... We'll plan that tomorrow! Plans for tomorrow - Todd to have a ski/snow boarding lesson just hang out in the snow - I mean, what else is there to do around here!?!?! Kristy, Todd and Taz
Ben Lomond, Australia tassieoldfields... fantastic, I throughly enjoyed it. In the afternoon we did a 10k (return) walk to the Montezuma Falls - stunning and a 104m drop! I sat talking to some guys from Tassie in the bar in the evening - the majority of the group crashed out around 9pm. Tuesday - last day of my tour :( We headed to the Cradle Mountain National Park and walked around Dove Lake - 6k, we couldn't do any other walks due to weather warnings of heavy rain and also the night ...
Launceston, Australia ronniedLike my favorite Doors song, this was the end. From Strahan we drove to Launceston. We had basically done 3/4 of this drive already, with the three German girls, so this was mostly just a driving day. However, we did stop at some sand dunes. They weren't as impressive as the ones on Kangaroo Island, but they were cool because of the diversity of scenery. We could see both the ocean and lush jungle mountains from the dunes. Pretty neat. From ...
Launceston, Tasmania, Australia hbomb1... seaweed, and the beaches were littered with the little blue bubbles of deceased jellyfish, Day three, or Friday, we were in Port Arthur, which was one of the highlights of my trip. It's hard to believe that there are so few people that do really live in Tasmania- every town that we came across on the coast was itty bitty- Australians have the tendency to make fun of this state in the south, and I can understand why. Even I can tell that their accents are not the same as the ...
Launceston, the coast, Hobart, Australia fireflysky... previous day so enjoyed spending more time there the following day. A spectacular area so close to the city with swing bridges, chair lifts, outdoor pool for kids - something for everyone basically. After a leisurely picnic we drove and walked to visit the remains of Tassie's first Hydro-Electric Power Station which eventually closed in 1955. A pleasant walk along the quayside concluded the day!
