The ship sailed through the night to Ghent. In the morning, we took a bus ride to Bruges for a guided tour of the city. Because Bruges was not accessible by water, it was left intact from about 1500 to 1800 and looks much the same today and was not bombed during the war .

... Ypres for The Last Post. We have an hour to ourselves first and have pancakes for tea. The crowds for The Last Post are amazing and largely in place about 40 minutes before it even starts. Canal boats were busily taking tour groups through the 39 bridges on the canal, some full of stalactites and moss.
