... there was an audio guide in English and we discovered the castle dated back to about the 14 century and such characters as One Eyed William and Bearded George all played a part in the castle's long and sometimes troubled history. ... 500 prisoners, there were approximately 300 escape attempts and 31 prisoners made it 'home' and usually sent a cheeky postcard to the camp commandant and sometimes left an equally cheeky message as they left saying such things as 'I can't stand the COLD anymore in Colditz- auf Wiedersehen! The escape museum contained amazing items made from scrapes such as a sewing machine which the German's permitted to make theatre costumes but the prisoners used 'out of hours' ...

... Lots of information (all forgotten now) and a good interactive section where you could listen to his music and amplify the different instruments as they played their bit of the composition. Very clever man and he wrote a lot of music.

Also home to Richard Wagner, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, the St Thomas Boys Choir and many many more notable composers and musicians.
