Arrived late. Went to top of fjell to get to highest point and look out over the beautiful islands. Taking off today for the islands. Just had a Walter Mitty moment today. ... the Norwegian army and Navy tried and failed to keep their ice-free, iron ore exporting port from the Germans. Naval battle in the harbour with considerable loss of life. Narvik was occupied from 1940 to 1945. Drove into town, stopped at the Tourist info for internet, and then took the cable car up to Narvikfjellet, for superb all around views of the fjord below and the fantastic snow capped mountains (again!!!) in every direction. ... us at the shuttle bus pick up point and as we were waiting we noticed several passers by dressed in traditional and ancient clothing, apparently it was a festival day but other than seeing people dressed traditionally we sadly did not see any other sign of a Festival.
The cloud was starting to form and by the afternoon the snow started to fall again, so we stayed on board in the comfort of the the ships lounges.
Tomorrow we have a day at Sea en route to Alesund.
