... grey concrete surfaces vibrate the truck more and have a higher pitched hiss. Then of course, there are the wonderful side-road rumble strips, which I did my best to avoid. At times, it seemed the GPS just froze, but it did not. It was just calculating the endless miles that lay ahead. 1625 miles on the truck’s clock as we pulled off of the interstate into the well lit parking lot of the Fairfield Inn, adjacent to the Bob Evans.

Annette and I have signed up for an orgainized Photography trip to the Badlands and the Black Hills in South Dakota. We have all of our photography equipment laid out on the dining room table. We are trying to decide what to bring and what to leave home. Naturally, we want to take everything, but there is only so much energy in our bodies that can be used for carting the stuff around.
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, United States woodyg... couple more runs, everyone meet up at the lodge for lunch...well almost everyone. Jon was enjoying himself so much he continued ski so more runs. Plus, Jana decided to switch to skis because she wanted to go faster and was more comfortable on skis. After a expensive lunch of a panini, chips and vitamin drink ($16!!), everyone returned to the slopes. After a half dozen runs on the beginner slope, I was ready ...
Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, United States ndsquirrelNeil spent the morning doing a few maintenance jobs on the bus and we left the park around midday. Next stop was the Wal-Mart super centre on the outskirts of Hanover that we had passed on the way in yesterday.
Although it is only just the beginning of October and Halloween is almost a full month away, as we drove through the towns we noticed that many of the houses had begun to decorate their porches and gardens with pumpkins, ghosts and skeletons and such ...
... hot but fortunately we had your "pool" to cool our feet! The next stop for us was a place called Fort Frederick Maryland. This was a State Park with an old fort that we thought might be interesting. However, it was so ridiculously hot .. around 100 degrees that we just didn't have the energy. The camp ground did not have any power so we started the generator so we could use the air con. That died within about 5 mins as we only had a quarter of a tank of fuel ...
Hancock, Maryland, United States manningnzStage 3, Camp Hill to Bedford... the longest day of the race, at nearly 170kms. Matt and I promptly failed to acheive our one task of the morning, which was to wake up on time. No thanks to Chuggy for failing to wake us for an hour after it became clear we'd slept in!!! Details of the race start getting a bit sketchy for me at this point, as things started to blend into one... We had two feed atations, however, due to a fairly major ...
Bedford, Pennsylvania, United States sknuckeySo, we were dreaming of a white christmas like all kids do..and well..we didnt get it. :( But unlike kids, we could do something about it! :) We found a group of pennsylvanians that doesn't take "no snow" for an answer! So, the day after christmas we dug out all our snow gear..pulled on our powder pants, snow boots, hats, gloves, coats, and fashionable scarves and piled into the car for a quick 2 hour ride up to the most snowless ...
Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, United States completelykateSunday started off v. slow and with lots of uncertainty. We weren't sure whether Mark's work in WV was finished or not, so we spent most of the morning wondering whether or not it would be ok to head back to Knoxville. We ended up staying put, a decision that was made after our 3rd trip this week to a local Mexican place with the best salsa I've ever had. I think this ...
Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, United States tpollock... and had trouble finding level ground near the electrical plug in. After a half hour of maneuvering we got it set up. We stretched the cord as far as it would go it barely reached, but the plug that we needed was being used by the people in the other camp. We have a 30 volt plug in and this campsite only gets to use 20 volt. (Think of the plug for a washing machine vs the plug for a light) I went to the camp store and found an adaptor. We plugged it in, but the ...
Washington D.C., District of Columbia, United States crawfords... wouldn't make it any lighter. She finally gave up, concluding that we actually packed the same amount when you subtract our her "girl stuff" such as cosmetics and a hairdryer. Perhaps it also helps that I find merit in the Jon Bergman truisms of travel: 1) If it's been in your bag for more than a week, it's clean again; and 2) Underwear has two sides; turn them inside out and you have a clean pair! Speaking of which, it is a shame that my lone pair of ...
