... we went to a whale exhibit at the Natural History Museum. I've only been in this city a couple hours but already I've noticed 2 awesome things: *EuroPride advertisements are everywhere! I have never seen a city so into Pride! And, I'm sorry, you really don't understand this sort of stuff unless you're gay. To come from a place like Edmonton which is considered decent for the ...
Stockholm, Stockholm, Sweden justen... ran everything instead of taking the carts in the aisle, a lot of extra work for them, and a lot of extra waiting for us. By the time the bread came we were done with the salad, and by the time wine was offered, we were done with the bread, and thirsty (my vodka tonics already downed). All and all a nice experience. Michael watched The Spiderwick Chronicles and I went to sleep, only to be awakened by his hand ...
Stockholm, Stockholm, Sweden ohiolair... Oops! As I walked in I commented on the unusual shape of the hull. Turns out that it's "innovative" hull dimensions resulting in a lack of ballast and a fatal list. (Ship design: how hard can it be?). The museum is wonderfully engaging, with interesting detail on how the ship was lost and then how it was found and recovered in 1961. There are little reconstructions and a 1/10th scale model painted in ...
Stockholm, Stockholm, Sweden monk-san... were that it really had it together. The previous evening we moved at about 40km/hr through a major traffic jam in peak hour, and on this morning I noticed just how clean and well maintained everything was. Furthermore, there was free coffee at Macdonalds, and what looked like a very efficient public transport system, with bicycles to hire at certain points. All things I never imagined after seventeen months in Poland. After taking a few photos along the docks we continued to ...
Stockholm, Sweden will... the bottom deck, under the ship, to convene for major meetings. In the same way, today parliamentary meetings are also held under the ship. Over the weekend, Jenny took us up to Gavle (pronounced Yahv-luh) in search of the gigantic Yulebocken or Christmas Goat. The 40 foot tall goat is constructed every year out of straw. Surprisingly, it has only been burned down 50% of the years that it's been constructed since the 1960s! In ...
Stockholm, Sweden chris_sayward... Slutet gott - allting gott! Anita
Stockholm, Sweden anitah... After the end of the Great Northern War and the destruction of several areas of the city in 1721, the city stagnated. Population growth halted and economic growth slowed. However, Stockholm maintained its role as the political centre of Sweden and continued to develop culturally under Gustav III. The royal opera is a good architectural example of this era. By the second half of the 19th century, Stockholm had regained its leading economic role ...
Stockholm, Sweden gregjenlong... today besides our grand tour of the facility. We were stuck in the conference room without internet connection and Kim did not send us the PP slide yet. Oh well, the dreary weather certainly fits our work. Typical first day of work I guess. Getting our security cards was quite a hassle. We had to wait almost the entire day to get our cards--they were printed in limited editions. I still have to get mine and it is already 4pm.
Stockholm, Sweden jolenewee... and fun. The conversion rate was obnoxious to do in our heads (dividing every price by 7) but I definitely got the hang of it eventually. Still, it's scary to get the bill for a group dinner and have it be in the 900's. By 11:00 we're absolutely ready to call it a night, and let the boat rock us to sleep. Bad news bears. Kate (a Pepperdiner) wakes us up to ask us what to do, there's someone sleeping in Jason's bed (in the 10 person ...
