We thought we were pretty good at catching trains. This morning we managed to catch the wrong one which set us back a couple of hours. Quite a few train changes required in our trip to the Izu peninsula which is (normally) a couple of hours south of Tokyo. We packed up our gear and I'm glad we took the approach of having a base for a week and doing day trips, rather than packing up an switching accommodation every day or two. It took about an hour to pack about a quarter of ...

... the latch on the fridge which hides the settings. These are not labelled at all and keeps messing with them. This is completely stressing me out since I have no idea what anything means. I would've thought our house would be a bubble, but I need a handout to heat a hotdog for Will in the microwave. I kept putting off laundry because I was scared of breaking the washer. ... you know what you're getting! The next day we rented bikes again. We went to the Imperial Palace for a tour. For this you have to apply prior to visiting, it's a free tour. It was neat to see the inside and learn more about it. We were riding our bikes when it started to rain. We rode our bikes in the rain along the river and it was fun!! To end our day we went up the Kyoto Tower for a night view of the city! The next day we ...

We decided to take a Viator tour (run by Sunshine Tours, Tokyo CIty Tours, Hatobus company) to see Mount Fuji. We were supposed to visit two observation stations on the mountain, have lunch, do a lake cruise, take a cable car to get a view of the mountain and take the bullet train back to Tokyo.

The trip was a complete and total wash - pretty much literally. Heavy rain was forecast all day. After a 2 hour bus ride to get to the mountain, we found out that ...

I'm not going to lie, most of this week was not fun. Mike and I attended an area orientation and cultural brief all week. Each day as soon as we were dismissed we rushed to pick up Will from child care and then whisked our tired toddler and his heavy car seat to meet a realtor. Realtors here mainly work business hours so by the time we'd meet the realtor, we'd only have time to see one house. Exhausted we'd return to base hopefully in time to catch ...
