... the desk open, we got to the airport at 12.20 by which time the airline had given away 16 of our seats, so although we were actually late, they re-scheduled the remaining members of our party on the next flight with no charge. It was a bit like the Titanic where kids and women went first, so we were lucky enough to be picked for the first flight, and kept together as a family.

I winced. Thinking that it was better to tackle the problem as a class, I regrouped them to look at the board and gave them some examples and a structure to follow: 'X is as Y as Z'. After this, I was getting some great answers to do with being 'as big as an elephant' and 'as fierce as a lion' which was fantastic to see!
