... and thankfully nothing happened.
We spent the rest of Saturday visiting nice coffee shops and at the craft market where you can see Africa’s ubiquitous wooden carvings actually being made. In the evening we enjoyed a beautiful meal at the restaurant Tamarind, which is reputed as being one of Kenya’s best restaurants, specialising in seafood.
From Sunday through Wednesday we ventured ...
Mombasa, Kenya willyblog... boys to receive a pair. But, as his presence became personal to us, it became painful to know that his feet would remain without protection. We learned that Mohammed was in day school. He is the oldest of 8 children, but like so many, his parents only work meager jobs and can't feed the family. This was the first day of Mohammed's school break. He came to the beach to secure money - hopeing that he could get enough to ...
Mombasa, Coast, Kenya matanyashope... came to pick us up and then proceeded to African Quest office to meet Taher and Tasneem Adamji. We had a good chat about safaris and traveling in general. Tasneem then took us for a wonderful Chinese lunch. After which we headed back to the office for a coffee. After goodbyes we headed off for a quick tour of the old city and then to Mamba Village, a ...

Mombasa, Kenya amandab9375... the basic living conditions and working in the slums. The smell of pee is not something i will miss, although i dont even smell the goat cafe anymore (local rubbish tip) . In months to come i'm sure i will be a distant memory for the children , but i will never forget them and the experience i have shared with them. In the poorest areas they always have a smile and they have an amazing way to recycle and be resourceful with whatever they ...

Of course that was only after I attended many drama 'lessons' where I was put on stage and had to do improve scenes about my reactions to someone stealing my boyfriend on Valentines Day or getting a phone call that a friend had died. I am still red from embarrassment. The beach days I mentioned were ...
Mombasa, Kenya michmalb... good things come to an end though and so after some sad goodbyes, we made our way south and crossed the border into Tanzania. Altogether Kenya was awesome and we were pretty sad to say goodbye, but some really good times lay ahead for us in Southern Tanzania and Northern Mozambique and so two days of hard driving bought us to the most exquisitely beautiful beaches. More of that later...
Mombasa, Kenya dusted... Tourtoise, Owen and Mzee. Owen was rescued after the Tsunami, his whole family was killed. They brought him to this rescue where Mzee had been living. He is a tourtoise who is 120 years old and has never loved or liked anything. This hippo became his friend, they would eat, sleep and play together. Owen started to take on tourtoise like qualities, so some one decided they needed to be split up. Owen now has a mate and they occasionally are reunited. We saw Owen but could ...

I write this now from Mombasa, having returned here on our way northward to the small resort/fishing village of Watamu. Like Lamu further north it's really the epicenter of the merging between muslim and Christian traditions. I am looking forward to witnessing this integeration and seeing how well it has played out - perhaps the future of ...

The fort looks out over the ocean and gave us a great view of the vibrantly blue water and the warm reds of Mombasa's buildings. Day Two: "I'm sorry for your color."
