... Tess as she spooned out
some fly pupae into a dish. She laughed and suggested that in another
time she would pay $10 to see me eat some. Then she paused and joked,
“I dare you to eat one.” After a millisecond of pause, I took the
single pupa and popped it in my mouth. Tess' face was priceless. Eyes
wide and mouth open, she exclaimed that she wasn't serious. The
morsel was crunchy with a tang of something bitter. My little
vegetarian loophole. Ha! ...

and I met at the entrance to the Brisbane Botanic Gardens and
We got to walking up to the summit of
Mount Coot-tha via the JC Slaughter Falls road and Summit Trail. It
was only 2.6km, but a lot of fun steep hills. We saw a lot of
families, couples, and runners. It as interesting travelling with
Daniel. We talked a bit, but then spent a lot of time in silence. ...
There is a “bike highway” that parallels
the main M5 and Moggill Rd highways. It is incredible! It is
specifically designed for bicycles and later on toward the city, has
a two-way bike lane adjacent to a two-way pedestrian lane. There are
little exit signs and everything. The best part was coming in to the
CBD and going under and past all the bridges. There are four of them
in less than a kilometre and each one is very unique, from ...
... so by the time we got to our first stop (a remote bay off one of the smaller islands of the 76 Whitsundays islands) it was nearly dark. Sammie explained to us that we were supposed to snorkel there that afternoon, but that we would be doing it the next morning instead as we were behind schedule. We all had a couple of beers (except the few Dutch lads on board who had brought a crate of beer each and got trashed every night we were on board) and tucked into the spaghetti bolognaise ...
... to explore Brisbane. We took a city cat from Sydney pier, New Farm all the way to South Bank. Here there was a food and drink exhibition and the place was buzzing. At least 1 km long of stalls and shows.
We walked into Central Brisbane to find the local Apple Store, of course! From there walked back to New Farm following the river under Story Bridge. Magnificent. At least 20km walked today!
