... steep to get down to the shore, it’s hard to imagine how difficult the soldiers had it. Seeing the sight at Omaha Beach really made me feel proud to be an American. After the beach, we drove onward to Saint-Malo, which is on the coast, and is a walled city. We stayed at a cute little hotel, similar to a B&B and had dinner at a nice restaurant, too bad I ordered my steak too rare…
Caen, Normandy, France liz.swind... at each scene on the tapestry. Without it you would find it hard to depicher the story and miss the little details which bought the tapestry to life.
The town of Bayeux itself is gorgeous and miracouslouly escaped WWII bombing...even though it was only 10km inland from the D-Day beaches
Bayeux, Normandy, France darrenhough74We had a busy day ahead so we set our alarm for 7am as its still dark at that time and so getting out of bed early has not been easy. I woke to the smell of coffee brewing and scrambled eggs in bed. The deal is I drive and Kim cooks.

After breakfast we walked over to the beach and on this beautiful sunny morning we found it hard to imagine the blood shed that occurred in 1944. From ...
Arromanches-les-Bains, Normandy, France darrenhough74Arrived at Ouistreham just before dark and found an Aire de Service right on the beach and this time it was free! The downside was it was right next to the ferry terminal and the 6am ferry to Portmouth the next day was kill the tranquilo the next morning. Kim's Maison du Scooby cooked up a storm. Pork fajitas on rice - delicious. I gave it 5 stars.
Ouistreham, Normandy, France darrenhough74The trip to Normandy was a lot to absorb. It's hard to believe, that my grandfather Kelly was there on D-Day over 60 years ago.I certainly do not think I would have survived. I am thankful he did, I wouldn't be here. Nor my mother and her siblings, my sisters, or my nieces. His sacrifice has not only affected the existence of my own life, but the daily lives ...

We also visited the Airborne Museum, which is pretty small but full of uniforms, weapons and equipment used by the Airborne Division. There is even a C-47 plane that was flown on D-Day.

We left St.-Mère-Église and drove to Utah Beach. Ellwood explained where the Germans were, where the American troops were, etc. It was very ...

Bayeux, Normandy, France carivergaThe bathroom in my room has an odd odour ... I have no idea why, since it's only got a shower stall and a sink, and the toilet is down the hall. Maybe it's smelly gases backing up through the drains, or perhaps it's me??? Another bad sleep, because I didn't bother with earplugs last night since I had my own room. Some other guests checked out quite early, fumbling around with their luggage, and some irritating seagulls woke me up way too early.
<br ...
Bayeux, Normandy, France pwong... machine guns and weapons. 4,000 men died on Omaha - an amazing place today to walk. We went to the American Cemetary again. Zach and I checked out the museum and watched a D Day landing movie. We checked out the artifacts and exhibits. It was freezing today and blowing a massive cold off the north pole - we were freezing. We ventured to Point De Hoc and saw the other gun placements that were in a strategic area between Omaha ...
