Rijeka
... and a public holiday. We wandered the bare streets and took photos of the typical political buildings, many churches and landmarks, including (another) ancient Roman arch. From there we headed on up the 800 steps to the castle overlooking the bay. 'twas arduously long and exhausting, however a daily occurrence for some people who's housing is accessible along some of this path. Nearing the top we approached a ledge to take advantage of a good photo opportunity ...
Lakes and the seaside
... that, the Chrystal clear ponds look inviting for a dip, but no swimming is allowed. We followed the path made from ruff cut wooden logs fiting in to the surrounding scenery over the free flowing water. We stood in front of the huge waterfall we had seen from above as it sent a fine mist spray into the air. Up some stairs we marched so we were again looking down on the beautiful lagoons. We carried on in wonder of what graces our eyes. Further into the park ...

Then as the bakery's were opening we popped in for a fresh chocolate croissant before hitting the supermarket for supplies. Simons friend Nick then arrived to travel with us for a while so once his tent was (awkwardly) pitched (despite much laughter and no help from ourselves) we headed back down to the sea.

Croatia here we come!!
Had super omelette for breakfast n a chilled out morning before taking the bus back to Ljubljana ready for the train to Rijeka- Croatia!
The train stopped on the border for some police to get on and check our passports before rolling off again. Woohoo Croatia here we are!!
The train pulled up and we had a short wander through Rijeka to find the bus station. Just on time for the bus ...

... Villas Astra and Deneš. I'll be leaving soon - next weekend I think - I can't keep postponing my trip to Ukraine.
I walk down the stairs to the bottom of the tower and towards a small deck where people launch hang-gliders in summer. I sit and dangle my feet over the edge - behind me I can see a young guy setting up his glide equipment.
Dogma. Cultural paradigms. Social conditioning.
But here, not even gravity will stop him from flying.
