Zion National Park

... it was warmer at Zion so we didn't need to use the heater so we didn't have to put up with the stink. We had worked out their was a serious leak in the black water tank of the RV. We ahad called Apollo who had told us to take it to Las Vegas for them to look at. It was becoming obvious that whatever was wrong was only getting worse. Unfortunately being in the middle of nowhere we could only keep going and put up with it.

Kitsch Kanab and Zion

... edge of the Virgin River at the bottom of the canyon. The sun was shining and the bright blue sky against the red rock was stunning. The walk ended at a little sandy beach, where we rested before heading back. We caught the bus back down the canyon and departed at a trail called 'Weeping Rock', where natural spring water continuously cascades down the face of the cliff.

During our walk we saw some rock climbers who were ascending the cliff walls thousands of feet up ...

... we hopped back in the water before leaving.

Then we just drove for the day finally ending up in the Crazy Horse RV/camping park. We did a ton of laundry and sat outside and uploaded the pictures from the last couple of days. The weather is cooler here, I think we're higher elevated. Anyway it made for a great sleep in the camper which still beats a hotel room.

we had a good ...

Iron Like a Lion in Zion

... I suppose it was the adrenalin as they prepared for the hike. I should have been on the trail at 7:00 instead of 8:30 if I really wanted a contemplative hike. Not feeling fully on my game and wanting a more relaxing hike, I backtracked and took the Kayenta Trail which eventually leads to the three Emerald Pools. I could wander, stopping to take pictures or watch titmice feeding in the junipers without feeling like I was blocking anyone's progress ...

I znowu inaczej niz w ...

Day 70-73: Zion National Park

... is supposed to only by 100 degrees. Day 71 - Saturday, August 30, 2008 - Zion NP Started today with an interpretive bus tour with a Ranger. Interesting. Learned a little history of the park. Named Zion by Mormons who settled here. Zion means sanctuary. Zion NP reminds us of Yosemite - a red Yosemite - only Zion is made of sandstone, not granite. Zion was cut by the ...

... are no official trails on this hike) that you are supposed to have extensive experience with navigating rivers and slot canyons as well as navigating with map and compass to be able to successfully complete this hike. So we made it through the whole thing (of course, it was amazing) and we were on our way back when David slipped down an unexpected waterfall. Of course, waiting for him at the bottom was a nice big sharp rock which proceded ...

Cold Canyons & Ice Creams

... a tall, narrow parfait type dessert) to the "big bad wolf", 12 giant scoops of evil. And when they talk about "topping", they don't mean the Cottees variety. I tried an "Oreo's topping", which turned out to be a big pile of crunched up Oreo cookies on top of an already enormous scoop of ice cream. Nice. Only trouble was, when it comes to ice cream, I have a hard time deciding. So next to my first scoop were another two (hey, its a holiday) and ...

Grand Canyon, north rim

Hi We started driving today at 7:00, and arrived to Jacob Lake at 9:00, where the nice way to the north-rim begins. The way is in a forest, part burnt. They let the fire burn, as it recovers nature. We visited the 3 end-points towards the canyon: Angel, Imperial & Cape - they all are similar and very nice, It was a sunny day, with strong cold wind ...

... the cliff walls and one was supposed to drag oneself along the face of the cliff without plunging to one's death 1,500 feet below. At last I came into my own. Transformed from a wheezing old geezer, I climbed the entire half mile to the top without once touching the chain (except on one occasion when I brushed it accidentally). The Chinese youth behind me told me that he had never seen someone my age so fit. I thought ...
