... were less than spectacular, and the intense heat made the walk more of an ordeal than a pleasant stretching of the legs in nature.

The walk ended in a village with a refreshment stop at a café. We then drove downwards through pleasant mountain valleys towards the border with Macedonia with a stop for a picnic lunch along the route. ... set up selling ice cream and a couple of restaurants too. As I walk further up the canyon we pass a water pump or control and then reach a little bay of sorts. There are boats here taking people up the river and a fancy type restaurant.

... One is a chef with his father and according to his friend, had one of the best restaurants in Macedonia. His family also has a restaurant in Vegas. I kidded that the buildings here kind of look like that but I'm not sure he understood me. If he did, he wasn't offended. The wife of the other guy works for the US embassy.
