Best hostel in Argentina

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I recently returned from a trip to South America and had the privilege of staying at this hostel along our trip.

We stayed at various hotels (four and five star) in many different cities in Argentina and Tierra de Leyendas was by far the best place we stayed. Tierra isn't a big place (four rooms) but that really added to the charm, especially that the staff gets a chance to know you and you to know them (especially in the mornings).

Essentially, this is a place that will make you feel like you are a privileged guest in someone's home and not just someone renting a room for a night. The rooms are nicely decorated, a good size, and immaculately clean.

Sebastian's cooking is world-class and I could not complain a bit about anything we were served for dinner. Top notch food and service.

We also received a lot of help from Gaston about what to see and do in the area and got a wonderful orientation when we arrived (a nice touch we didn't get at anyplace else we stayed).

Stellar place. If you're going to Ushuaia, go to Tierra de Leyendas to stay. If you're going to Argentina, go to Ushuaia so you can stay at Tierra de Leyendas. This is one place that I really would go to the ends of the earth to stay at again.

A few things you may want to know. Tierra de Leyendas is not near downtown Ushuaia. We found that it cost about 8 pesos (~$3US) for two to go by taxi into town (about a 5-10 minute ride). It makes for a nice quiet place and better scenery, but if you want to make a lot of trips between shops and your hotel room without a taxi, you may wish to take this into consideration. It did not cause us a problem while we were there.

Also, there is another hotel in town called Hotel Lenguas that is in a totally different spot. If you don't have a good spanish accent you may wish to have a piece of paper with the hotel's name on it to show a taxi driver. They all knew where the hostel was but we had a hard time once or twice getting them to understand our bad spanish.

Absolutely wonderful, a home away from home

We have just had the most wonderful 5 days here. Everyone at the hotel was wonderful. They don't mention it but they organise really good activities and excursions. They know all the best trips and guides and arrange for you to be picked up from the hotel . Although the hotel is 10 mins. out of town it is very cheap and easy to get a taxi less than US$2. It is warm comfortable and the food is excelent. Beds are soft and it really feels like home!! We are coming back!!

A super b&b at the end of the world

My husband and I recently stayed here for 4 nights and can honestly say it was one of the best B&B we had ever stayed at. The position of the property meant that we had wonderful views of the Beagle Channel, and the standard of accommodation was exceptional. The hosts, Maria and Sebastian, did their utmost to make our stay comfortable and were full of advice and information on activities in the area. From the first welcoming glass of wine, we felt completely at home.

The breakfast was the best we had in our 4 week stay in Argentina, and what can we say about the dinners!! There are not many places where you have your own personal chef!! We did not need to go into town to find a restaurant, it couldn't have been better.

We would certainly recommend the hosteria as a place to stay. You will not be disappointed.

An absolutely legendary place

We started our month long trip through the suthern Argentinian and Chilean Patagonia with a week in Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego. Having never been there we were a little concerned about staying at the Hosteria Tierra de Leyendas as we had been told it was some 5 kms out of town . . .How irrelevant that was!!

Perfectly placed on high ground overlooking the Beagle Channel and Navarino Island this was a charming place to stay! I can tell you the U$6 cab ride into town was worth spending; that is, if you dared leave the great atmosphere and amazing food cooked by owner Sebastian who, luck would have, is a truely talented chef. There are only 4 well appointed rooms so you feel very much at home. They helped us organise all our activities and went the "extra mile" to make us feel comfortable. It must be one of the best value for money places around. The only minus was the rather outrageous laundry costs when compared to many other comparable hotels

Thoughrougly recommend it.

Great Hotel, great service!

Beautiful small hotel, fantastic location, staying at Tierra de Leyendas was absolutely fabulous -

Our room was wonderfully comfortable with a bed that I wanted to take home with me.

The staff were all charming and helpful - Maria and Sebastian are the owners and live there.

And there are a lot of details everywhere, internet free 24hs, tourist information, books, great dinners, free DVD movies, and more.

We also enjoyed the free buffet breakfast every morning, with views to the Beagle Channel. It was always a great start to our mornings

The price for a double room was around USD100/USD110

It has spoilt me for any other hotel there when we return

Comfortable, friendly little place

My wife and I had a very pleasant experience staying at Hosteria Tierra de Leyendas for three nights during our honeymoon. The owners, Sebastian and Maria, seem to have a lot of experience in the hospitality industry and are great hosts. They're a younger couple and have two adorable little 3 1/2 month old baby girls that live with them in the hosteria.

Hosteria Tierra de Leyendas is a 5-10 minute cab ride outside of Ushuaia's modest CBD. And it's situated on the end of town that's closest to the Tierra Del Fuego National Park - which offers nice, but surprisingly expensive, day hikes. Between cabs, park fees, and buses my wife and I paid $30-40 simply for a day of hiking. But the park is scenic, if not dramatic, and almost worth it. The Hosteria is also situated on a little hill that offers wonderful views in every direction of the surrounding peaks and channel. Overall this hotel's setting is very nice but a little inconvenient if you want to stroll around the CBD. Althought the CBD is a bit dumpy, so you could make the case that being situated on the outskirts of Ushuaia is a good thing.

Overall the facilities at Hosteria Tierra de Leyendas feel very warm, clean, and new. The rooms are well appointed and generous in size, the beds are comfortable, and the views out of our room's large windows were just stunning. I'd recommend requesting one of the two rooms on the channel side. The only problem that my wife and I had was in our bathroom, where the shower was poorly designed and water from it literally flooded the floor every time we showered. But we mentioned the problem to Sebastian and it sounded like he was already aware of it. You should also know that there isn't TV service here, if the matters. But Sebastian and Maria do have a large DVD movie library to choose from free of charge.

Another big plus here is the breakfast, which is including in the room fee and is gourmet by continental breakfast standards. Also be sure to stick around for dinner and have Sebastian prepare a Patagonian lamb dish for you. It was so good that I had it on back-to-back nights. The hosteria also has a nice living area on the main level, free internet service, and your hosts are always ready and willing to give you the insider's scoop on good activities and services around town.

All in all my wife and I really enjoyed our time at Hosteria Tierra de Leyendas. It's certainly a pleasant place...

Really nice small hotel

We stayed at the Hosteleria last month and had a fantastic time. If you don't want to stay in a big corporate complex then I would definitely recommend staying here, where you will get really well looked after. It's close to the Beagle Channel, town and airport and you have amazing views both to the mountains and the Channel. Good food and Sebastian and Maria are really friendly and helpful.

Your home at the end of the world..

I stayed last month in this new hotel, and I really didnīt know anything about it. I am so glad I end up staying there!! It is just PERFECT. The location with spectacular views to the Beagle Channel, the decoration of the whole place in a rustic manner... and specially the way the owners make you feel at home during the stay.

Sebastian (the owner) cooked dinner every night... donīt miss it!!

The best place to stay

I highly recommend you to stay at Tierra de Leyendas during your visit to Ushuaia. Wonderful views, cozy and warm rooms, and the best service. The owners are friendly and always willing to help. They know a lot about Ushuaia and how to make you feel at home...

And in addition... great dinners!!
