... was not to be. A wander around the old town and its tiny Jewish ghetto - there was a population of around 400 Jews living here in the 16th century after all were banned from Rome by Pope Pius IV. Some of the best Etruscans ruins from 6BC were in the area so we hiked out of town to check them out. Mostly they consisted of carved out roads through the forested hills. There was also an ancient fountain. Not too exciting to look at but the walk itslelf was very nice :)
Pitigliano, Tuscany, Italy darrenhough74Last night we had just made a new itinerary to include a visit to a National Park on the coast, but that was all thrown out the window as we received a text message from Kim's mum saying she wanted to come and join us. Kim was ecstatic!!! Another replan session as we did our much overdue laundry in Grosetto and our trip of Italy was to come to an end sooner that we thought as we had to get to Barcelona in 1 week. It worked out better this way as Kim's mum flies home on the 15th Dec ...

Porto Ercole, Tuscany, Italy isola_rossa... its proximity to Rome. Since the 1970s there have been strict planning laws in place to preserve the natural beauty of the area. Consequently, if you drive round the west side of the promontory from one town to the other you find yourself on narrow roads wiggling along the coast surrounded by Mediterranean scrub; thyme, myrtle, rock roses, lavender, wild olive and fig. The land rises steeply above the road and falls away precipitously below it to the sea. It is an ...

Tarquinia, Lazio, Italy leijen_ova... Mediterranean...kite-boarders were everywhere and the sand in this part of Italy is latte brown and so, so soft! And the water is warm! So, camping was a great experience!! We're leaving on Saturday for Viterbo, a village close to Rome where the cruise ship leaves on Monday, July 30th. We'll be back on August, 6th and I liked camping there so much, we reserved 2 more nights when we come back...it's hard to beat those sunsets ...
Grosseto, Italy whatboundaries... 11am. Ten minutes later it arrived with € 17 already on the clock which I thought a little odd. It was a very fast run to the airport and took less than ten minutes. The driver demanded €55 which I was not happy with and offered €40. He still took exception to this which attracted the attention of a taxi security guy who tried to intervene but I was not happy with his explanation that it cost him €17 to get to the hotel. That was ...
