... stop for me is Villa Carlotta which is a villa and a lovely garden. 9 euro. Back in the boat to Bellagio. Another beautiful town. I have lunch here. I have a buffet which is disappointing. You actually have to use a microwave to heat things if you want them hot. Didn't realise this to start with. You can go back 3 times (primo, secondi and dessert). Cost 15euro including a glass of wine. Back on the boat ...

... That seems a bit odd. Not sure where the sand would come from. Probably just my eyes. We pass through lots of little villages which are very agricultural. It's so much more satisfying going by train than flying. It's not a cheap way to travel though. A Eurail pass would be the way to go if you're moving around a lot. ... spectacular and we have been blown away with the vast mountain ranges with snow covering them, it was surreal.Sophie fell asleep at the perfect time as the road was starting to become a little winding.
We crossed the border from Austria into Switzerland and soon arrived at St Moritz. Once again the scenery was amazing with snow capped mountains, people skiing along walking tracks, husky's at training school and a lake that was covered over. We stopped for a break and a ...

A beautifully surfaced road beribboned with hairpins and fast curves winds up the mountain. We intend to take the small dead-end road from the top of the pass up another 500 metres in altitude to the Oberaar lake and dam with its glorious views.

But at the top of the Grimsel the clouds defeat us. The mountain tops are completely obscured and it's cold and windy. So we stop ...
