Traveling to Iguazu

Last year, we took an trip across the Rio de la Plata to Uruguay. This year we went up to the Iguazu area which borders Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. The high point, the Iguauzu Falls, are between Argentina and Brazil. US citizens are required to have a Visa to enter Brazil and that costs about $110 per person. The consulate here in Boston has very limited hours making it difficult for someone who works to get a Visa so we used a Visa service. Although it added to the overall cost, it was a...

3 million liters a second - omg

... side of the border we headed for the falls.
We started out with a 30 minute tour of the rainforest with a local biologist expanding all about the rain forest and the plans and animals in it. Saw Toucans and lizards, no pumas or monkey though :-(

We took a speedboat and when I say speed boat it had 2 - 250 Mercury's on the back up stream to look at the main falls, man did that thing shift. After a 20 minute ride ...

Soakin´

... Turns out Seb the great - our tour leader is handing her cash of his own.

We then trek down to the Brazilian side of the falls - its a 40 minute walk or so and is really quite spectacular particularly when we get up close to the largest cascade on a platform. Stunning and thunderous. Jerome, being the techy that he is has a flash program on his lap top (which has a broken "mousse") which can make panoramic pictures - so he tries the ...

lost in Brazil

Ok, so I knew that they didn't speak Spanish in Brazil and I was not naive enough to think that Portuguese was close enough that I would be able to understand it. Nevertheless, I thought myself pretty savvy with the old pantomime/hand gesture/pointing method of communicating in a foreign language. And maybe I would get lucky and find someone that spoke Spanish or English if I needed help.
It really all started when I decided to cross through ...

Busy busy times!

Man Alive- it`s been busy here since I last wrote!! On the move every fews days!! So, we left Rio de Janiero (waving goodbye to the mother and Susan) and headed for Ilha Grande. The journey was probably one of our worst so far! We left late because we were all feeling so hungover after are many caiparinhas the night before, and then the really crowded and bumpy boat took fooorever to get back to Angra! When we finally did arrive it was to ...

Brazil...

... The back gate walks out straight onto the sand..., with four immaculately presented sleeping rooms all leading straight onto the delightful garden and pool ...with hammocks swinging from the porches. we see few tourists its still quiet and the season has not yet started in earnest. The village hums in the evening with the young locals, who hang out opposite the bars . There is also a great selection restaurants all serving excellent food. I try horseriding along the ...

Changed my flight, not coming home...

... anger seemed to improve my step. I did stop and wait for him a few minutes later. But then we got lost. For another hour. And hes a guide! We ended up on top of a cliff that I just about slipped off of. We had to swim up river a ways to get back and tramp through the bushes. This was not helping with my mood. But luckily we found our way back to the trail. I really just wanted to leave but he decided to get naked and go for a swim, ??? The ride back was ...

I didn´t know it could get any better...

Last night I drove up to the lookout point with my family to watch the sunset. I had to keep myself from laughing as we 4x4´d our way up in their brandnew little car, I think we dropped the engine a couple of times, eeps. Then we drove into Alto Paraiso for supper, which they wouldn´t let me pay for. Cool little outdoor restaurant with live music. I thought dad was going to kill us with his crazy driving but after a few beer I decided it wasn´t that bad of an idea to ...

Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros

Today was one of those days when I thought to myself, ´life really doesn´t get any better than this`, as I was eating fresh goiaba while swimming under a waterfall (yes at the same time). Except of course if I had some family or friends here. But I´ve adopted a new family. I have two younger brothers, 18 and 19, and very sweet parents who seem very much in love. They´re from Brasilia and they´re staying at the same pousada. You have to visit the national ...
