... 1. Cost... Substantially cheaper than anywhere else in Rio 2. Cultural experience 3. The view from the bar!!! The rooms are small, the bathrooms not the cleanest and the staff are ordinary, but those views are just breathtaking. There were almost tears today before we left our hostel in Santa Teresa. Chris spotted a hummingbird in the garden as we were eating. He didn't have the ideal camera in hand and only managed to capture a handful of blurry photos..... ...

We got to the famous Maracana stadium early in time for the closing ceremony which featured Shakira, Santana and Wyclif!! The atmosphere in the stadium was electric and the Argies were really making a noise ...

... footballers playing headers and volleys and an area to try out the new boots. Very impressive, and great to see something being done for Brazilians as most of the people at the party were locals - seeing them play makes you realise just how engrained football is in Brazilian culture, and why they are so good. We enjoyed some canapés and strawberry mojitos before dancing along to the Brazilian superstar MC Marcinho and meeting Liverpool legend Coutinho. What a week! More coming soon.... ...

And of course fans from around the world wore their team tops and chanted when in large groups.

Rio is such a beautiful city and full of action 24 hours a day.

We arrived to sunny 30 degree weather. When first looking for accommodation here for the 4 of us we could ...
