... the district when there once were over 200 abattoirs and meat processing packing businesses in the area ( hence the term "Meat Packing District ) now it is a very trendy kind of upmarket area with lots of great places to eat and trendy and exclusive bars and clubs etc for the young 'uns. The high line is now a garden walk and the old railway tracks are still in place in a lot of spots along the walk. It is about 2k long. Got off ...

... The elevator to the top have a very nice feature, the three walls had floor to ceiling LED screens and as you ascend you see the development of New York over a few hundred years as if it was "outside". As you'd expect, the view from upstairs is pretty spectacular, even if they couldn't help themselves in trying to create more of "an experience" than is necessary.... Video displays, annoying ...

... exactly what we needed before entering the madness of the city. We spent a good hour and a half admiring pure beauty, watching people take their dogs for a walk. We even managed to see some little kids on the ice rink go through lessons and tumble and fall. Our leisurely stroll came to a grinding holt as we entered the city to collect our New York Pass (80 attractions on 1 card for 3 days).
