Days 282 - 298: Cruising On Land And At Sea

... Mustangs.
We had a whole week together in a two bedroom apartment in Orlando where we spent a lot of time just chilling out. We ventured out for swims in the pool, mini golf, the beach, surfing and then retired back home for home cooked meals, cocktails, beer pong, more cocktails and cooking lessons for me (Dave says, "thanks Allison"). Home cook meals are a novelty for us but it was important to mix it up and take Allison and Adriaan to a few fast food chains to ...

Tuesday 26th March - Monday 1st April

Our first adventure was to survive the 2 and half hour que to get through immigration, not exactly a great welcome into the states (but no arrests thank god). Once finally at the apartment, exhausted after such a long day we flopped into our KING size beds and slept like babies ready to enjoy the ...

On the Way to Colorado

... At that station she swabbed my hands with a small white cloth. It is a test for explosive residue. She put the piece of cloth in a machine. A few moments later she said I could pass. I collected all of our junk and we were on our way again.

We stopped some 20 gates short at a Cuban restaurant. It was a cafeteria style restaurant so I sent Leslie through the line while I sat at a table with our bags. Leslie ultimately made eye-contact with ...

Ah the wedding

I am a serial wedding goer and have been invited to dozens of celebrations over the years. In my view, there is no better way to spend an afternoon, than in one's finery and drinking champagne. Bill & Angela tied the knot on Sunday morning at 11am. The bride looked stunning in Vera Wang, later changing into a slinky diamanté encrusted gown for dancing. There were some very personal touches. Both Bill & Angela have lost their fathers. 2 empty ...

Leaving Lima and Peru arriving Miami

A travel blog entry by luharris

... have told this lady many years ago. Finally we arrived at Miami feeling excited to be able to speak English and eat normal food, we dived straight into a Subway for a great feeling of home and decided to follow it up with our first ever American dunkin donut. We have not really eaten a healthy diet over the last few days ahh well, we will eat well in  Utila and plan to do loads of activities so not too fussed even though Craig and his non smoking is giving him what ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Boulevard Hotel Ocean Drive Miami Beach

    Horrible Hotel

    from

This has to be the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I was in Miami for the Winter Music Conference (2004) and was convinced to stay here despite all the bad reviews I saw on the net. I should have protested to my friends more, because this place is a shady rat hole, that is not fit for human excrement.

    Disgusting

    from

There is only one word to describe our 1 night stay at the Boulevard Hotel... disgusting! To begin with the service was terrible. We couldn't use the elevator because there were piles of boxes blocking it. Our room was absolutely filthy. The carpet was disgusting, the sheets were torn, the bed was so hard it actually squeeked when you moved, but the best was the mold in the ice bucket. If it had not been 1 am and thunderstorming when we checked in we would have left. I would have much rather spend the night in our vehicle than pay $200 a night for absolute filth. Beware.

    Horrible, Horrific

    from

I suggest no one stay at this hotel SERIOUSLY! We bascially got to a room that had the worst cigarette smell. There was basically not enough light in the room, you could barely feel the air conditioner and yes the rug was burned w/ like an iron or something. We requested a change which they did but half way during the trip I wake up to find a waterbug in our room we scream for the housekeeper which was soo nice. She came to the rescue and not only found one but 3 waterbugs near our bed.

Basically if you want to shower w/ flip flops and sleep on your beach towel instead of the hotel sheets, then this is the place for you.

I would not wish this hotel upon my worst enemy

    Not a good surprise!

    from

I felt compelled to write this review because of the three star rating the Boulevard hotel is given, when in fact in should be rated one star! We rented two rooms for a week... the linens were burned and stained, the food odors were bad, the furniture was banged up, the bathroom tiles were falling off the walls and the first day the toliet plugged-up and wouldn't flush. I was very upset, since I had booked these rooms on-line with a reputable website, months earlier. Thanks to the web site company, they called the hotel desk and we were upgraded to the one mini suite that the hotel had. The mini suite was not a typical suite but it surely was better then the room we were shown. Our kids stayed in their own room, not really minding the room conditions. Next time, we will pay more and stay north or south of this hotel on Ocean Dr. And I was told AAA is the one rating these hotels!!!

Great location but terrible service and staff

    from

Stayed at the Boulevard hotel in Apr 2004. The location of the hotel is great, right in the middle of everything. The standard was low but clean. BUT the staff was very unfriendly, disagreeable and dishonest.

They tried to swindle us more than once, on the price for the room, what was included in the price and taxi fares. Besides this they had no service mentality. The unfriendly attitude started upon check in and ended when we checked out. I do NOT recommend this hotel. Chosse another hotel on Ocean Drive, between 5th and 11th, if you would like to be right in the midle. Some other places I do recommend in the neighbourhood is Clevlander, a club/pub on Ocean Drive 1020, and Mohjito Lounge on 15th Street (might be on 14th...) - the best mohjitos in Florida!

    Misguided and overcharged!

    from

We stayed at the Boulevard Hotel Ocean Drive just one night (thank God). When we arrived at the hotel we were too early to check in so we asked the man behind the counter if he knew of any motorcycle shops within walking distance we could go look at to kill some time. He gave us directions to go a few blocks to 17th street and gave us the address. So we ventured out. Once on 17th street we found it was ALL residential properties. So we asked a man on the street and he told us that the motorcycle shop was in downtown Miami on 17th Street - not where the hotel clerk had sent us. So we went back to the hotel after walking an hour and a half to find a place that wasn't there, we waited to check in. We got in the room to find a large burn in the rug where someone had left a hot iron, and dingy bedding. The hallway outside our room reeked of the seafood they were serving at the resteraunt and marijuana people were smoking in their rooms. The next morning we went to the counter to check out and the man asked us if we had consumed any of the candy bars or water that was left in the room. We had no such thing in our room and we told him that. A few days after returning home there was a $14.00 charge for candy bars and water on my credit card.

    The place to be

    from

Friendly, Clean, safe and in the center of it all. This is the only place I will ever stay in South Beach it is great. Everything you want to do is just seconds from the hotel. Its great for us girls who have to wear those sexy shoes that kill our feet.

    Wonderful!!!

    from

My friend and I went to South Beach on Dec. 31, 03 and stayed for four days at the Boulevard. It was simply marvelous. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Ocean Drive is beautiful and Wet Willie's is a great place to enjoy inexpensive drinks. I'll be sure to stay at the Boulevard when I go back in July!!!!

Would recommend the Boulevard Hotel for anyone looking for great accomodations in South Beach. Excellent location and can't say enough about how friendly and wonderful all the staff were. Hope to get back there again in the very near future.

    Worst vacation ever!!!!!!!!

    from

We stayed at the Boulevard Hotel in South Beach Miami. It had to be the worst trip I ever had there simply because of our HO..tel. First , we could not control the temprature of our own room that we paid $150.00 a night to stay in and the bed linens had burns, tears and stains on them. we booked an ocean view room and ended up on the side of the building above the kitchen vent that blew directly into our room. Not to mention the service was Horroble. South Beach is my favorite place to visit, but, this hotel ruined this trip!
