      On our way to San Diego! Instead of driving through the southern desolate Arizona and California deserts in the 110+ degree heat, we took a detour through "Vegas"...actually Boulder City. Still temps in the hundreds, but better traveled and with a Hoover Dam.

      ... is not allowed to travel to the Dam. There's a new bridge that now bypasses the Dam for the very purpose of taking traffic from the highway over the Dam itself. The Dam is an amazing feat of engineering and there's a fascinating museum and memorial to the workers. I'm seriously scared of heights so stayed away from the ledge. Very dizzying.       ... so we felt we'd not done too shabbily!

      They told us about a Korean guy who they met who was doing it in 6 days covering up to 600 miles per day.... On his own! MADNESS!!!

      We bid them safe travels and as we got back into the car Mark waved to the other Mustang drivers in their fleet (other Kiwis). They blanked Mark!!! Ok, so perhaps that couple were the exception to the rule!!

      ... following the sat nav is not the best idea when set to 'the fastest route'. It led us through a very dark and scary forest, where we were the only people. The tarmak stopped and we were on a dirt road. The dirt road stopped and we were on some kind of track that had been graded to slow down 4-wheel drive vehicles.
