... cover about a vertical mile so they say it’s foolish to try and hike the whole thing in one day.

Our hike was half the distance, so we hiked 3 miles down to the half way rest stop then 3 miles back so a 6 mile roundtrip.

We set off pretty early so not long after sunrise as any time after 10am is just so hot it’s kind of stupid to try and do anything too exhaustive if you can help it. The hike down was pretty fun and we over took a bunch ...

... plus. The road got so hot that I could feel the heat radiating off the road and "burning" my fingers (had cut off gloves on). Final tally of miles travelled 3630 mile (5840 kms) Truly a memorable ride. Memorable moments: - The amount of maize farming in Minnesota and South Dakota - The number of bikers at Sturgis - The roads and scenery through the Black Hills - ...

Unfortunately after that Helen fell down a hole in the boat and sprained her ankle.....amusingly (for us) we then rounded the next corner and there was an air rescue helicopter landed on the beach. This was not for us though. Unfortunately, one of the ladies on another trip (who we had met at Bar 10 on the first day) had fallen and broken her hip, so had to be rescued. We ...

... the tubes' through a few more rapids, with Mark at the front having fun getting soaking wet! Our boat an Kevin was very knowledgeable about the geology of the Grand Canyon and pointed out the different rock layers and types the oldest of which (1.5bn years old) is the schyst (try saying that after a couple of beers!). We also saw 'the great non conformity', a geological mystery where 1 billion years of rock is missing, and we learnt a posh new word for lime ...

... 00 noon. We took the tickets and then we just killed time until the tour. The boys weren't overly impressed with the Dam. It was not their favorite thing to do but I really enjoyed it and we all learned a lot about the history and ingenuity of an earlier generation. The Hoover Dam is one of the 7 modern wonders of the world.

It was the hottest day yet. Coming ...
