Boston Inn Sihanoukville

... After a night out around our guesthouse we found that we were in the ceedy part of the town with dirty old men everywhere.
On one of the nights we went to the resturant at the back of our guesthouse where it was BBQ all you can eat for $4, Rheann was in her ellement. We cooked all the food ourselves on a hotplate which was on our table and was really enjoyable.

Poverty is very definantly on the other side of the old railway tracks, where again a big shanty town has sprung up. I did notice however a number of kids hanging around as if waiting for a train, odd as passenger services stopped a number of years ago. With Phnom Penh behind me I headed south to Sihanoukville and the Gulf of Thailand. What I was expecting was pristine, undiscovered beaches. After a few days in the bustling capital city we decide to see a bit of the coast and head down to Sihanoukville, Cambodia's main beach holliday area. Catching a bus early out of Phnom Penh we get in around 13.00, the bus journey (for once!) being uneventful. Of course we feel like rockstars when we get off the bus and are confronted by bloody tuk-tuk and taxi drivers who offer a ride to Serendipity Beach (real Cambodian name that)for 8USD. Laughing ...

... the pesky mosquitoes, we couldn't rid ourselves of the constant beggars and hagglers on the beach. The next day, we found a comfy spot on the beach to lay out, listen to the waves and sunbathe. Except that all we really heard was, "Ladyyyy, you like manicure....ladyyyyy you buy fruit....ladyyyy you buy bracelet from me???" ... enough, the food. But Cambodian food has turned out to be a nice surprise for me, especially after absolutely hating Vietnamese cuisine. I've lost ridiculous amounts of weight from Vietnam just because I couldn't find anything I found appetizing.

After a fabulously languid day, we headed back to the guesthouse, glad to have given Serendipity a miss. We just spent time hanging around. The dormant tuk tuk drivers had an unfortunate habit of asking if I wanted 'Lady Bum Bum? It depends on your interest or point of view, I guess.
