Bari is a port town just above the heel of the boot of Italy. We arrived right on schedule (2:20 PM) and took a cab to our next AirBnB in the old city. When I say old I mean old. This little area of the original Bari is a maze of tiny streets and alley ways and dates back hundreds of years. The area is pedestrian only area so we got to haul all our luggage ...

... mostly locals living there, so when we wandered around the corner from where we were staying, the winding streets have washing hanging from the lines out from the balcony, people calling out to each other, and on the ground level the big heavy wooden doors were often open, showing a dark interior behind the lace curtain. There are small shops here and there selling some groceries, especially pasta, a tiny butcher shop, a fish stall, and our favourite, the ...

Before we left this morning we walked round the garden. We know that the present owner has had it for 13 years, but we think that before that it must have been a tropical garden of some kind, as there are some very old plants, and he must have taken it over and restored it. It is lovely and very unexpected. Our bill for the B&B and the 7 dish dinner and the privilege of seeing the garden ...

Beautiful morning. We took another walk round the island, visiting some of the bays we hadn't visited before. There were so many different shades of blue in the sea contrasting with the bright green of the pines, hundredsof lizards, butterflies, the lovely scent of pine trees and so quiet. Having walked down and up to the coves, we were quite hot and came across a very small beach (one of only a few on the island). There was no-one ...
