Osa Peninsula, Oh So Pretty!

... out with a man bangle for Alan, a lovely woven slingbag for me and a hot pot stand for our house that we will one day own. We were also in two minds about whether or not to buy a mask made out of Bolsa wood (which is extremely light). These masks are traditional war masks worn by the Boruca tribe, but are now used for their annual Danza de los Diablitos ceremony, celebrated every winter since at least early colonial times. The Danza depicts the resistance of the Diablito ...

One day in Puerto Jimenez

We arrived in Puerto Jimenez with out a hitch and were greeted by two scarlet macaws in a tree next to the runway. We did our usual search of every hotel in town and ended up staying at The Corner. (Thats the name of the hostel, we didnt really sleep outside on the corner.) We spent the day exploring and saw a few crocodiles and ...

The safe way. when we got to the top. i decided to go to the very top where i found some rock climbing gear. i didnt have the rest of the stuff needed but someone had the right idea cause it would be ...

Corcovado Jungle Trek, day 2/3

... and how we are so glad we have decided to hire one. We probably could do the hike ourselves no problem, the paths are pretty clear, and there are coloured streamers attached to branches periodically, so I doubt that we would get lost. However just getting from A to B isn't the point of this expedition; we want to see animals, and this is where Roger is proving his worth! He will suddenly stop, turn over a leaf on the ground, and there ...

so much to catch up on..

... on the lounging on the beach and a day hiking in the national park, which was so awesome. We saw a few different types of monkeys, a ton of huge iguanas, pacas (which look like giant rodents), and some really pretty scenery and waterfalls. We rented a car in Quepos and drove down the coast, passing back through Dominical. We ended up in a small town called Puerto Jimenez, which is in the Southern region ...

... and then I endure yet another 2 hour bumpy bus ride through 6 streams which are probably higher than when I first came. Luckily I won´t be alone on the bus. I befriended a couple from Paris who is also taking that bus. So it should be interesting. I won´t be able to use a computer again for 2-3 days, so I hope you enjoy the pictures I uploaded.

Corcovado National Park and El Remanso

When we left off, we had just arrived to Puerto Jimenez, on the Osa Peninsula, on our way to Corcovado National Park. While we were there, we heard some Hebrew being spoken around us and met an Israeli couple who were also on their way to the park, the next day. That afternoon we took the collectivo to Carate, 2.5 hours to get 42 kilometers on a bumpy road crossing a few creeks on the way. We stayed at the Corcovado Tent Camp Lodge, half an hour walk on the ...

hola, Daniel and I left Boquete and the three great Quebeckers to try our luck in Costa Rica. So far I have observed waaaay more gringos, higher prices, more hustlers and nicer buses. After crossing a mangey border at Paso Canoas (replete with a homeless American without any teeth who helped us find the transfer point that we were in fact already standing at), we turned our watches back one hour and switched our American dollars for Tico (Costa ...
