... South along the Adriatic coast for about a hundred miles. We arrived at our hotel just South of the Port town of Ancona in an area known as Portonuovo which has a commanding view of the sea from a bluff. The wind howls up here and should make for a noisy night. The hotel is devoid of people save a few that we saw in the lounge area. Not surprising given both its remote location and the time of year. Very quite except.....for the wind. All in all a very enjoyable day.

Rush, rush, rush this morning as we had to be out by 10.00am and we all had a bit of a sleep in after our very late night. So much for one last stroll through the canals this morning. I'm not sure how I ever thought that would happen, wishful thinking I guess.

... underpass to an island platform. This is a branch line in rugged country, and the train is an old, noisy, three carriage diesel with automatic concertina doors. There is no bike compartment, and the floor is high, so we struggle up the steps, and find we, our bikes and a loaded hand trolley belonging to one of a number of Africans fill the space between the passenger compartments.
