National Route 6, Airport Road, Kruos Village, Svay Dangkum Commune Siem Reap, Cambodia, 855-63-964999
We took a 7 hour ferry ride down the river to Siem Reap from Phnom Penh. It left at 7am and Garry had told me it was "about a 3 or 4 hr trip" and we didn't eat before hand and there was no food sold on board and I was eating my own stomach lining by the time we got off. The last 1/2 hour we had to be towed by another boat as the tide was so low! We were met at the pier (more accurately a dirt embankment swarming with Tuk Tuk drivers) by "Sol" a friend of our Phnom Penh driver Bun Phat who too...
Siem Reap, Cambodia capravrAfter breakfast, tour the South Gate of the walled town of Angkor Thom then the famous Bayon with its spectacular bas-reliefs wrapping around the temple walls. Also, the Terrace of Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King. Late afternoon, on our way back to the hotel, we stopped for a workshop demonstration of local artists who carve stone and wood ornamental sculptures.
Siem Reap, Cambodia jmandell1Today we visited the "Citadel of Women" of Banteay Srei and Bantay Samre. Then Ta Prohm, the jungle temple of dreams- where the forest has moved in and huge fig trees, tangles of vines and creepers are among (and a part of) the sanctuaries and passageways.
Siem Reap, Cambodia jmandell1Fast Facts: Siem Reap town and the temples of Angkor are UNESCO sites Population = 160,000 Day 1 From Phnom Penh, we took an AC bus for a 6 hour ride to Siem Reap. It was a comfortable bus and the road between the 2 cities is good so there were no delays. We arrived in Siem Reap on Wednesday evening and decided to start our Angkor temple tour on Friday - that way we could rest on Thursday before starting to wake up really early every day (you all know that is a struggle for us!). We had dinn...
Siem Reap, Siem Reap, Cambodia josie_tyI was against adding Cambodia to our list of travels but Ginger insisted that we visit Angkor Wat and was she right. We are having an amazing time here. Other than the visa process which was very similar to Vietnam's and eating stir-fry morning glory stems four days in a row everything has been great. Morning glories maybe once but four straight days over two countries. Enough already. Back to Cambodia. Our guide Hak and driver Mr Bo are really great and informed. They are very proud of their...
Siem Reap, Cambodia srtessierWe are leaving Cambodia today to travel to Hong Kong. Our time in Cambodia has been extremely busy with sightseeing from 8-12 and 3-dark every day. The hours in the middle of the day are brutally hot so we have spent them eating our lunch and swimming in the hotel pool. The hotel has been the best we've stayed at and the food has been great. The temples and sights are just spectacular and some are over 1,000 years old. Our driver Mr Bo and guide Mr Hak have been a lot of fun and very informat...
Siem Reap, Cambodia srtessierWhat a luxury Siem Reap provided us - 6 nights in the same bed! Yippee! In actual fact, it provided us with some really relaxing time by a local posh hotel pool amidst some intense touristing of ... temples! For $5 we got real value for money using the Borei Angkor Hotel's pool for a day. Beautiful sunshine and a spick and span poolside, though I wouldn't have minded the water temp to be a degree or 2 higher ... but that's just being picky! We even had guilts of exposing our growing bellies a...

Third day, woke up at 4am to catch the sunrise which was absolutely perfect.......a beautiful sight. Hit the central town and markets during the day. In the evening I had 2 great experiences. firstly I visited a local school which teaches languages to children after school. i went into one of the English classes and was invited to teach the ...
Day One:
This was spent recovering from the bus journey and comprised of attempts to load pictures. Other than that it was spent settling into the guesthouse-the guys there quite the characters-aged 18-25-from Mao (nickname 'Borat') who had several tendencies to either gender and who seemed to engage in anything addictive- from alcohol to cigerettes-but who loved to talk to Daohaw (also called Tohor)-the studious, non-smoker, non-drinker who is searching to ...
... Temple. The others were small sites that didn't take up too much of our time, except a sudden heavy downpour that lasted for 15 minutes and had us all drenched. We were at the Terrace of the Leper King and there weren't any shelter within sight.
After Angkor Thom, we went back to our guest house for a rest and ...
