    ... very patient.

BBQ food, tables under the trees and beer - but not for us. Being with the village VIPs, we were invited to lunch with the mayor's party. Not a posh affair, but nice food (Bulgarian portions which meant there was no hope of eating it all) and lovely people we could communicate with thanks to Pam's Bulgarian. Also rakia - apparently very good quality but ...

... Kushta, the ethnographical house museum on Gurko Street. Kate also revisited the craftsmen's street to buy herself a dish from the coppersmith.

That evening we went to Piccolo restaurant for dinner. I had never been there before, and after the dud meals we had there, I'm highly unlikely ever to return. Kate's in particular was very disappointing. She'd ordered carp because she'd never had it before, but it arrived in ...

Next morning we excitedly got up, breakfast sorted and headed to the Malina ski centre to collect our skiis and lift passes. We got ...

... we were further back in the gorge, was at a much higher up stage than where we'd crossed it before. It was filled with giant boulders. There was no bridge this high up but there were stepping stones, so we jumped across them and walked for a bit through the beech trees that continued on the other side.. After a couple of minutes the trail petered out, so after making a pact to come back again in the spring or summer, this time for a whole day, we retraced our steps and drove back to ...

... upon the Museum of the Rose on our way into Kazanluk. The Bulgarian Rose is as big of a symbol of our country as yogurt is, and so I was a bit disappointed that the museum was in an old building in a basement floor. The most interesting objects in the exhibit were the giant boiler that was used to extract the oil from the rose petals. There was also a giant container that was used for storing the oil, and even though it had not been used in over 60 years, the cap smelled like a ...
