Cobbled streets lined with chairs and tables, terracotta rendered houses, pink and blue shutters and yes even geraniums growing in planter boxes. Aix en Provence is exactly as you would imagine a town in the south of France to look. When we arrived yesterday we went straight to the tourist bureau. ... pretty pervasive. In other words, you can't un smell some things! We still didn't really know what it was but we thought it was probably offal of some kind. It was still meat like, but something just wasn't right. Mr S said it reminded him of the smell coming from some of the boats in the harbour that we had passed during the day. There were some interesting flowers in the garden - including a bottle brush that we almost walked right passed. It's funny that it took a while to realise that there was something wrong with seeing one of these in France.

Walk back to the town was aided by a stop at the local ice cream shop - Italian gelato is good in any language!
