... off at the Tall Ships dock on Broad Street in Brockville, Ontario at around 10 am this morning. The ages of the people taking part in this trip range in age from 16 to 18. When we dropped Frederick off at the dock, the ship was there along with many other parents and their kids - waiting for the adventure to begin.
... River and seeing all the Islands. It such a beautiful and relaxing sight to see.
So anyways... we kept driving and finally made our way to Gananoque...
I love spending time with the kids. It's hard to believe that Frederick is already 17 and Fiona is 10. Time sure flies when you are having ...
... to eat, I called my Mom to say "hi" and then we headed off to Cornwall to visit her parents.
It's not too far to Cornwall from our home in Lyn, Ontario. It's a little over an hour to be honest. The drive to Cornwall was pleasant even though there was quite a bit of traffic on the 401.
... Castle on Heart Island. A huge castle, boat house, sand castle home, and even a castle for the animals! It was never lived in. The wife of the man that built it died during construction. He halted all of the work and no one set foot on the island for 70 years. The family sold it, lock, stock and barrel to the state for $1.00 under the stipulation that it would never be lived in, no ...
... soon passed, and after numerous goodnights and well-wishes from the group, we finished our night off at Emily’s place with some more Canadian beer, Bundt cake, and a hot chocolate with marshmallows to watch the third Stanley Cup play-off between Chicago and Boston. I only watched up to the end of my hot chocolate though, I’m afraid all that horseshoe throwing took it out of me, but hopefully they'll bring me good luck.

Historical Traveler Reviews Bonnie Castle Resort Alexandria Bay
My husband & I stayed at Bonnie Castle on Columbus Weekend. Our room was clean & well kept. The staff was terrific! The restaurant has the most wonderful food and the bar was fun. This is an older resort...some repairs should be made, but I think the price, the views, the food and the staff made it at steal! We will definitely stay there again.
Read reviews before you go....
I just return from a weeks stay at the Bonnie Castle. I read the review before I went and glad that I did. The room they gave us was not that clean and we could not open the air conditioner vent due to the age. I had mentioned this to the head of our group. He stated that we were to all be together and I should not have had that room. I went back and they gave me another room and acted like it was a hardship. The people across from me never got their ac working. This is a beautiful area...resort has many meanings to different people. This is an older area and does need some maintance. The food was excellent in the dining room. The pool and hot tub were okay. They have their own boat to go to Boldt Castle which was very nice. You can walk down to the shopping areas. A lot of the shops had closed down for the season but the ones left open are nice. Susan and her staff were very nice and helpful. I would go back again but make sure to check your room first.
Bonnie Castle area is prettier than the post cards and very relaxing.
I feel good !
Right from the start I was treated well. The courteous staff put us on the right foot starting with the reservations. The meals were delightful and the prices and portions were fair. I would do it again. Bill
We stayed at Bonnie Castle Resort last night. This is not a resort!!!
The rooms were terrible - filthy, no alarm clock. TV from the 70's - 19 inch if that. No PS or Nintendo or Movies available on the tv. Our room did have a vcr that they offered to rent movies to you for. We had water stains all over everything & dried on food on the "desk". Air Conditioner didn't work & couldn't open the windows because they had no screens. Kids enjoyed the indoor pool - would have been a great view if the windows ever got washed & you could see through them - the ones that were'nt broken & boarded up. Alex Bay is a great place - I've been there dozens of times and this is the only hotel in the area that I have not been 100% pleased with. Make the trip, just don't stay here.
Place needs repairs just to make it acceptable
The web site is totally misleading. The buildings and grounds are a disgrace. The owner should stick to fixing up the place instead of adding more properties. It is only a matter of time this place will fall apart
Choose another hotel at A Bay
This is not my first choice to stay in A Bay. The rooms are adequate at best. My sister-in-law was charged top dollar and when she entered the room there was scrambled eggs behind the door on the shag rug. The front desk was ambivalent.
I have rented a slip from them and this seems to be o.k....However be warned that you must bring your own towels if you utilize the shower.
Barely adequate for a very short stay..
Room accomodations are adequate. Brochure and website are totally misleading. This not a Resort Hotel by any stretch of the imagination. The property is shabby, we ate elsewhere as the dining room smelled. The pool is in the middle of the parking lot and poorly maintained. The gift shop is the size of a large closet.
We were in Alexandria Bay for a martial arts hall of fame banquet and tournament earlier this month and all of our party was to stay at the castle. After smelling the lobby and the uninformed staff we took the liberty of viewing our rooms. Oh my god I wish this was a "smell a review" It stunk so bad and was filthy. The pull out sofa had something vile squirted all over it and when I had called ahead to see if they would put an iron and ironing board in our room it turned out to be one of those table top ones that had a cover on it that was all shreaded. One of our other party said the room he was shown had a huge rip in the carpet all the length of the room. If we had stayed there we would have had to burn our clothes it smelled so bad. The food at the banquet was adequate but there was no offer of any beverage other that water and coffee and that we had to ask for. We had to pay for tea and soda. The recreation facility should have been condemned a few years ago and do the words broom and soap and water mean anything. We all ended up staying at the Pine Tree Resort and it is cute and quaint with a lovely staff. A little worn but just enough to give it character. We had prompt service and comfortable accomodations. I would stay there everytime I went up and our entire party agreed.
Peaceful & Beautiful
The setting at Bonnie Castle Resort is, I think, the most tranquil & beautiful of all the hotels. We had a great room right near the water right across from Bolt Castle. Can't wait to go back!
Bonnie Castle has a great restaurant with a lovely view and great food. The resort has lots going for it but if you are looking for a room that overlooks the water you might try somewhere else. Very few rooms have a water view or balcony close to the water.
