... I had to then take a short ferry ride across to the mainland. Once there it is only about 40 KM to Bruge, and most of this was spent alongside a Canal on a cycle path with a slight tailwind to top it off. When I got to the campsite in Bruges there were many fellow cycle tourers. I met 4 South African guys who were aso heading down to Paris and a French couple, Dominic and Martina, who had just completed a 20 month cycle tour ...

      ... back then...!

It went in really easily this time, so less scared than I was getting it on there to start with. In fact, I'm just so less scared in general now! Then we joined the queue to wait in the heat to load up on the ferry.

Again, a lovely little cabin, this time with bunks and we decided to get food and go to duty free before my anti-sickness ...

Next up, we travel to the area in Belgium called Wallonia where there are many lovely castles and caves. Then we travel into Germany for a trip down the Romantic ...

... the food is inclusive – they had a lovely selection of little sandwiches and rolls, as well as some cakes and cookies and what is on offer changes depending on the time of day – and you pay for drinks. The drinks here are the speciality teas and coffees (e.g. lattes, cappuccinos, etc). Was nice to have a hot drink as I felt quite cold and damp after being out in the rain. I can’t comment on the lattes but the cappuccino, while the milk texture was ...

... in the centre of town, The 'De halve Maan' family brewery (=The Half Moon) and a tour of the canals, both of which were delightful. Night 2 was much the same as night 1!

Bruges was terrific, a real surprise packet. A lovely, small and quite beautiful town with lots of pubs housing the best beer I have ever tasted, what more could you want? I plan on returning...... to do a tour of Flanders Fields....and to keep well hydrated with monk's water!
