... br> Onwards and upwards and its getting colder by the mile. Snow is now all around and many parts of the road have packed ice along it so I need to take great care getting up this pass.

Every inch of the way I watch the satnav counting down the kilometres but they just never seem to be getting any less.

After a long hard slog I finally arrive at the hotel I plan to stay in right at the top of the pass and right under the Dolomites.

      I stayed here last ...

26.10.14 Left Schwangau today and drove through Austria with snow all around us and to the Waldheim Hotel in the Valle Di Casies in the heart of the Dolomites. There is snow all around us but the roads are clear. It is a really picturesque area, not much to do except admire the scenery. We checked into the Hotel and went for a long walk, the Hotel has a restaurant so we will have dinner there. Stayed in our room and played scrabble ...

We waited and waited for Tom and John - wondering how their high mountain walk was treating them! Laurie finally called John to make sure they were still conscious. :-). She advised them NOT to take the higher path as we had watched some folks walking here. Sheer cliff on one side and only ...

... br> parallel to the main motorway (which appeared to be elevated on concrete piers
most of its route). The motorway was busy and even the local road was busy, Not
pleasant driving. This is a main north-south arterial route.

Stopped at Camping Corones. Luxurious site, with heated
sanitary facilities and a heated outdoor pool, but somehow we did not like it.
Full of Germans and very “ordered” parking.

... of another gorge but we are too old for this sort of thing, so
we called it a day, had lunch and started our return journey.

All in all, a very nice days walking – 4+ hours in all.
Returned to camp, did the laundry and caught up on some overdue tasks. The
weather outlook is not good for the next few days, so it looks like it might be
time to move on. The question is, “where to?”.
