The signature landmark of Dresden is the Frauenkirche, the Church of Our Lady. It is one of the most talked about German buildings in the recent past.

In World War II, air-raids wiped out Dresden, destroying many historic buildings and churches. Among them was the Frauenkirche, which collapsed into a 42 feet high pile of rubble; the ruins were left untouched for 40 years, a reminder of the destructive powers of war.

Dresden was on our way to Prague so we thought we would look at the old city, and the church they had to rebuild after the serious bombing during the war. We had a walk around, saw some great historic buildings and had a beer. It was a lovely city but me and Roy were both hot now, so we pushed on to Prague to find a hotel.
We thought about camping but wanted easy down time.

We spotted a nice little corner bakery last night on our travels, so made that our port of call. There were a group of serious road cyclists outside on really good bikes - Giant Defy Advanced with Ultegra Di2! Nah, they had bikes that I've never heard of with Ultegra systems. I had a chat. They had taken the overnight train from Cologne to climb the mountains - 1000m (vertically) today and a similar 80km ride with hills tomorrow before ...

... home. Today however we had an hour or so to look around and relax before a lovely evening meal at the Dresden 1900 restaurant. Amarylis and Kaisa took the group on a short walk after dinner and then it's back to the hotel as we have an early start in the morning...some of the award-winning "last down for breakfast" winners will need to be on their toes at 7.30am! More to follow from our look round Bautzen and the concert in Niesky tomorrow. Best wishes from all the staff and ...
