    ... to store and transport beer, refrigeration for houses, and fresh water. They were cool and moist, and I’m glad we had a guide with us or we most definitely would have got lost! The poor guide, even in Czech, you could tell she was nervous, and we learned at the end of the tour that it had been her very first tour being the guide on her own!

    Wow, what a morning! The exhibits in the Gäubodenmuseum in Straubing were extraordinary; the Roman objects found buried there in 1950 are amazing! Metal breastplates, knee guards, shin guards, helmets, swords, silver coins etc in perfect condition. The Romans settled here in 70 AD and called the place "Sor-viodurum" The Danube trail is well signposted, we have only lost it several times, mostly entering or leaving a city. ...

    It was a pity we didn't have an extra day in Regensburg as it is a wonderful old city. Left the city over the Steinerne Brücke, the oldest working stone bridge in Germany, it was constructed in the 1100's. Our first stop was at Walhalla, in the town of Donaustauf, it is an imitation of the Pantheon Temple on the Acropolis in Greece.
