Split - quiet but good weather

... beach again as it was such a nice day.
Walked to Marjan Forest Park and hired bikes and rode around park. Some pretty steep hills but awesome views from the top of the park and heaps fun going back down.
Went back to Fife for dinner since it was so awesome and so cheap and had tripe and roast veal.
Fife is some of the best and best value food I've had in ages. Especially compared to most of the other touristy places in Split

What we thought would be a vacation...

... it was the perfect time to be sick. We just watched movies on his laptop, American shows on the TV with 2 channels (Friends, Xena Warrior Princess…), cooked, and played Chess on our mini travel set. Overall, it was nice to relax but I know I started feeling a little bored.

Saturday came around and the storm was clearing (only a little bit of rain and clouds that morning). We then hopped on a ferry to another island, called Korcula.

... an hour as they swam amongst the few boats. The sun has been shining all day and we have done absolutely nothing! After breakfast we walked down to the beach, which is just a short walk from where we have parked at the campsite. Then, we played a board game and had lunch, followed by going for a swim in the ocean and relaxing on the rocks. We are about to catch the ferry from our campsite into the small town of Trogir; we can ...

Cruising in Croatia

... to dump our bags on the ship before a little exploration around Split. Quite a pretty little town, had a little bit of a feel like Greece being a seaside town with plenty of alleyways with nooks and crannys. Wandering our way through we saw a couple of the markets, a few ruins and a statue which must have been important in some way (rub his toe).

We got onboard and said our hellos to everyone onboard. 28 people ..... 16 South Africans ... yes 16!! We were out numbered!! 6 ...

Hvar beautiful Hvar

... closer than the campsite, we agreed to have a look. On arriving we discovered air conditioning, we agreed then and there, only after did we find out that we are only a short walk into the town and even closer to the pebbled beach. A bit of luxury every now and again never hurt anyone. Mind you if we had taken up his offer from the ferry, it would have saved us the bus ride. Hvar is an amazing town. Once again we still cannot decide ...

Lazy days

... as nothing else to do in the evening but sit back and chat over a few beers. I thought you'd like a few pics of Hvar town as it really does seem to defy words. At least I'm not feeling the effort to conjure up any great adjectives. See for yourself and imagine the quaint empty feel of an ancient little port, with a breeze blowing through the vineyards, and the utterly unrushed lifestyle. Ian

Warning - posh people here

... activity is walking along the waterfront rubbing shoulders with the posh people and having a (VERY EXPENSIVE) beer in the boat club and almost falling asleep on the couch. But there's something to keep you awake - the $20-$100 million boats lining the shore...and the chance that there might be an eligible bachelor amongst them. No such luck, lots of cigar smoking Germans.

The Island of Hvar

... July and August the marina is full of pleasure boats, the streets are crowded with holidaymakers, and the bars and nightclubs are hopping. It is the end of the season, and we're hoping it won't be that crowded. We find lodging in a hostel on a hill above town and after an exploratory walk around town and dinner, get lost on the way back, as we haven't taken sufficient care with orienting ourselves. Next day we take a day cruise, which is quite ...

Relaxing and learning to drive a boat!

... of the only sandy beach in the islands and Hvar area which had been suggested by the locals- called and located on Parmajama Island. Unfortunately none of us read the map very well (which didn't actually pin point the beach) and we ended up driving for 40 minutes past our destination, getting completely soaked in the water due to the huge choppy waves we were riding against in our tiny boat! We decided after all getting grouchy and soaked through that we would give up ...

Croatia

By 8:30 in the morning we were sitting on the topside of a ferry, eating burek and an orange, bound for Hvar. It was the only ferry leaving before 2:00, and it was recommended to us by one of the women offering her pension to us in Split. Two hours after we left we docked at the island. From the ferry looking down you could see that the water was clear. We boarded a minibus with standing room only and drove from the harbor to Hvar proper. As we stepped off ...
