... I was still pretty exhausted and didn't have my head in the game the way I should have. I am sure that I will learn to stay closer to my camera in future ventures so I don't lose the memories of what makes all this travel so great.
Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States sirsmonkey42... is still there and we are told that the hotel (which we didn't actually see because we were looking at the golf course across the road) had to be rebuilt after hurricane Ivan 2004 (they thought). The hotel has been there for close to a century and it was the first time it had sustained significant hurricane damage. We did stop at a lovely park and pier in Fairhope and then downtown to a fantastic shopping area of small stores. I couldn't ...
Silverhill, Alabama, United States momaduncWe made an early start this morning and continued our exploration of hwy 98 along the Emerald Coast - through Destin and Pensacola. The beaches became more spectacular and the towns more prosperous the further west we traveled. Many of these communities are not more than 50 years old, most of them undergoing tremendous growth during the last five years. Huge hotel complexes now line the coast making one wonder how the current ...
Silverhill, Alabama, United States momadunc... for my call telling me I won the snowbird door prize drawing! We continued on our way in Bama (cant help it- i love that....) to Elberta. There they had really sweet museum regarding local history. It was nicely done and it even included 2 acres of out buildings that were parts of their exhibits. Finally: I was thrilled- not everone else was- but we were on our way to Sweet Home Farm. It was actually outside of Elberta- but SO worth it ...
Foley, Alabama, United States mobertsAfter a long drive through the interior of our fine country on Highway 51 and then a shortcut across Mississippi, I arrived in Mobile, Alabama. A place I had never even come close to prior to this trip. I knew about it from Jimmy Buffett songs but that's about it. My friend Jimbo and his wife have a house on the east side of Mobile Bay and that is where this trip gets its start. Our first mini-trip was to Florida (of all ...
Mobile, Alabama, United States quietwaterfilms... around 15 minutes, next to a few cars that were in party mode, ( there was a shrimp festival happening back from where we came from) so they were carrying on the party with loud music and continued drinking. We eventually boarded the ferry and ploughed our way across the mouth of Mobile Bay, about 40 mins steaming. This took us past a few oil rigs dotted across this bay area. It was interesting watching the ferry unload, the "party car" was just ...
Dauphin Island, Alabama, United States popusa2008... of the first times I had ever swam in the Gulf of Mexico. In the Gulf the water is much warmer and there are hardly no waves at all. This means that there are a creepy amount of fish all over the place. They surround your legs as you stand in the water and you can feel them brushing up against you and occasionally even nibbling you.
Gulf Shores, Alabama, United States buteng1... TWO THINGS, THOUGH. I MISSED SEEING THE LITTLE SAND PIPERS AND FOR THE LIFE OF ME I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THEY WERE. THIS WAS VERY STRANGE. I, ALSO, MISSED PLAYING GIN RUMMY WITH HUBBY. I WILL CATCH BACK UP...YOU CAN BANK ON IT! THANK YOU FATHER FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART FOR A WONDERFUL TIME AND ANOTHER TIME TO SINK MY TOES IN THE SAND AND WALK IN YOUR AWESOME OCEAN!!!
Orange Beach, Alabama, United States lapetitegrande3... the sea gulls with little bit. They did and called us telling us that there was lots of cranes there. Well, we was in Foley already and turned around. I am glad they called because I did get some good pictures there. Like I said this trip was just too short. Our little sweetheart grand-baby was the best, sweetest little one on this trip! Thank You Father for a wonderful time with the kids.
Orange Beach, Alabama, United States lapetitegrande3... from the lakeshore, where he kept his boat in the water and fished whenever he wanted to. There was an abundance of good restaurants on the beach road nearby, as well as a big WalMart. For those of you that don't know, WalMart is rather important to the RV life. Most of them allow overnight parking, as well as, most of the stores now are SuperCenters that have groceries, pharmacies, beauty salons, and just about anything else, so it's an easy one-stop place. etc.
