Jericoacoara: Muito arenoso, ventoso e turistico

... 8217;t speak English who would take me on a motorbike instead for a good price. Never before has 50 km/h felt so fast as it does on the back of a motorbike over sand with very strong wind blowing! We had been on the road for about 15 minutes before we got to the first lake surrounded by sand dunes. It was absolutely gorgeous, and not another sole around… a dangerous place to be with a Brazilian man!

The sand around the edges of the ...

Jericoacoara, Complaints from Paradise

... and swam in fresh water lagoons with names like Lago de Paraiso. Lake of paradise. There was a big park and we saw owls, black kingfishers and awesome eagles called caracaras. So on tourism some general advice. Try to stay with a hostel owned by someone who lives there. If the lonely planet says cool hip place, that means it's full of idiots who can't hold their beer. And finally on food. If you are a long way from home and you know exactly what ...

Days 38-41 Sand, Wind, and Surf by Carolyn Sauck

... flight the next day. I bought tickets for a semi-sleeping bus which basically means you can recline really far and rest, but the bus turned out to be standard with air conditioning. Well, with air conditioning for the first hour or so. The air conditioning broke and we sweat for a couple of hours (it was SO hot!) before the bus driver was able to pull into a lot where the company had ...

Camocim

Just a flying visit to Camocim, it wasnt a place I particuaraly wanted to come to but it is on the route I have to take if I want to get to Sao Luis the scenic way. Because we left so early it was nice and cool to travel - none of this rediculous 40oC temp - more like a nice 25oC. It was a pretty smooth ride on a converted truck so it can ...

Met de buggy naar Jericoacoara!

... waarom hij mee is. Dan wijst hij een smal weggetje aan. Hier moeten we in.

Jericoacoara

So, the only way to get here apparently is either by 4x4 (or dune buggy), or a truck.... and you arrive via the beach - which was pretty cool. First things first, the beach - rank. You have you walk over all this ... I don´t know what to call it... cruddy stuff. So putrid! Having said that, the dunes are awesome, and there are some beautiful lagoons too. Spent the first few days wondering over the dunes and getting particularly sweaty, and ...

Still here........

Today went to breakfast to Eugenia and Pierre´s house who are the sister and brother in law of Leia whose house we were at yesterday had breakfast with them before getting a boat across the river to the dunes the other side or Ilho da Amor as its known. Spent the day there with them and their kids swimming and eating crabs using small wooden mallets to bash them apart (far more effective than the usual impliments) and ...

On the move to Camocim

Get up early to get bus to our next destination instead of going to Rodovaria we got to nearby town square to get a cheaper minibus but it doesnt leave until 11am. Dave and I go for a wander around town to see the market and the river to at least pretend we have seen some of the delta which we keep being reminded by people that we should go and see. See no other tourists at all here. Get minibus and a seat. Dave is still delighting in the ...

TWO YEARS!!!!! ..... and all the things I miss

... my 2 year anniversary of traveling. My first day here, I set out to explore on my own but while walking along the beach I met a cool chic from Argentina... perfect! back to spanish again. We ended up hitching a ride in a dune buggy to this little community far from Jericoacoara. The people there don´t get tourists and when we mentioned we were getting hungry, one of the locals was on the problem. He asked one of the local women to ...
