... this city. We really feel that the best option for this city is to become a newly developed city with lots of new structures dominating the skyline.
Other residents we spoke to feel that a lot of the older buildings have been badly neglected over the years and will just be too expensive and rather pointless to repair.

... to sleep in the car. It felt really strange to find somewhere remote to sleep - we were both a little worried about being startled in the night by someone moving us along but we were fine and slept well!

the following day we made our way back to Christchurch to stock up on more gear before we could properly hit the road. After an unsuccessful day of searching for charity shops and the library for internet we headed off to a little town called ...

... had a lovely walk up to Lake Matheson (the reflection lake – sadly not reflecting much due to the annoying breeze that had sprung up from nowhere!) and then down to Haast where we stayed the night. As we left Haast Village and drove upwards, the mountains came into view with glimpses of snow covered peaks. The road from Haast is quite narrow and twisty, through bush covered gorges, past rivers of ice blue water tumbling over boulders with viewpoints at Roaring Billy ...
