    ... a cab, heading for the Novatel Hotel. It was a very short ride. Our cab driver pointed up the hill a few hundred feet saying we had to walk to the hotel as the road was closed.     ... of Rakinui (the Sky Father), were on a journey around Papa-tū-ā-nuku (the Earth Mother), when their waka (canoe) became stranded on a reef. To save themselves they climbed on top of the canoe, and after a while the south wind froze them and turned them to stone.     ... was really nice. The drive over was a little less than two hours.
    We are staying at the Akaroa Cottages, and Murry pointed them put as we were going down the road. He asked if we wanted to just ride with him and the other passengers into 'town', and then he would drop us off on the way out of town. That sounded great to us.
