Mount Robert's Tram Overlooking Juneau

... miniature cruise ships surrounded by white capped mountains as far as the eye can see cannot properly be described. We watched a pod of Humpbacks blowing and flipping their tails and we didn't have to wait in any lines or share our trail walk with any more than a few people. After leaving the throngs below, we really did have this place to ourselves.

Thank You to my friends Jim & Nancy for recommending this as a 'must-see' in Juneau!

A Day to Remember

... Mendenhall Glacier. The looks on the boys' faces were priceless when they realized the large, white "road" between the mountains was ICE! We landed on a flat section of glacier just below a large ice fall and debarked. Serguis was anxious about walking on the ice until the grippers were attached to his boots. Then, he was the lead ice climber - out pacing all of us! He received more compliments from the guides...there ...

Auke Bay and Skagway

... Juneau, we asked the pilot if he would fly over the Juneau ice fields, which includes about 6 named glaciers. It wasn’t the normal flight path but everyone on the flight agreed so we did. We flew fairly low and experienced the jagged peaks of the Juneau ice field up close and personal. We were so awed by the experience it is hard to describe. The pictures are cool but it was 100 times more ...

How much can you pack into one day?

... about 6 humpbacks actively bubble-net feeding. They were then joined by another group of 6 or so and it was an incredible sight to see. One could say it was a PG rated religious experience from all the "Oh my Gods" exclaimed from the 6 of us including Captain Steve. I have included a description below of what bubble net feeding is as it says it way better than I ever could. Thanks to Harv and Marv's for making this experience ...

... before but it is nothing like seeing it in person. I'll let the pictures do the talking but there isn't much I can say to make it feel like being there.

This afternoon we saw a presentation with Libby Riddles, the first woman to win the Iditarod sled dog race. Margy has wanted to see and meet her for years and this was her big chance.

And of course, one food story for the day. Dinner last ...

First Small hikes

... water fall in person- and no we didn't photo shop our pictures in front of it despite how it looks =] . We had a great day and even found the trail head to our big two day hike we will take on Sunday. It was an early night for us- asleep by 6pm Alaska time. Today we are off to climb Perseverance Trail and Granite Creek Trail to the old gold mining camp. Blog ya later! Hill and Bri

4th of July and departure

... in Europe, but then I was happy with what we had. At the end I thought it was even better that way as less waste will be thrown in the water than in Geneva! So there is a good point in small, oh sorry, tiny fireworks. We went back to a bar we had been before to sit for another beer with the old fisherman Dan who had told me I made his day when I had first met him. He has some great stories! The next day we woke up with some incredible ...

Juneau and Mendenhall Glacier

... were adequate and we got a good night's sleep. We didn't get up in time to see the iceberg we passed by, but we did see the humpback whales passing by. We were a little late getting into Juneau, but were soon on our way to the campground. The campground is nice, but we have encountered the Alaska State Bird here. After getting set up and enjoying the remaining crabs for lunch, we headed to Mendenhall Glacier which is about 2 miles from the ...

It was the best of days... It was the worst of day

... br>
We searched high and low, but couldn't find it. I tried to speak with several Carnival cruise ship representatives, but they didn't seem interested in helping. (This is but one of the reasons I can not recommend the Carnival Cruise line for a cruise). We pretty much got the "don't know what to tell ya, buddy" attitude, and couldn't find anyone on the boat who could help us with the situation. We got a lot of shrugs and "I don't know's ...
