... collapsed into a chair we found out that they didn’t have cheese, chicken, or beer. Lola and Kate promptly jumped up to go to another place to bring the beer back while everyone cheerfully looked at the menu for what was left.

I had refrained from any drinking as I’m too sick of being sick to delay my recovery any longer; instead, I spent the night laughing at people, with people as they got more and more silly. After dinner we stumbled ...
Kendwa, Tanzania claraz8... is not that picturesque. We pass through a number of villages and the rural area and we are surprised
to see garbage everywhere. It is strewn along the road and also piled high and deep, and then burned. We found the same thing in Stone Town but wondered if it was just Stone Town that did that. The smell in the air is aromatic, but it is not from the variety of spices that are grown on this island. It is definitely ...
Zanzibar, Tanzania boydandrose... I asked the vendor to chop me a bigger piece. He did, but said something that seemed to delight his friends and whip my friend into an angry frenzy. They began to apologize to her, all the while laughing, looking anything but apologetic. “What did he say?’ She was too angry to speak. Several blocks later, she divulged his insult. “He says that you shouldn’t always crave a big one, smaller ones also do the job”.

“ ...
Zanzibar, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania judykibinge... in a more chilled out beach spot. We sailed on the boat for about an hour and a half and anchored near an island which is the marine reserve. There were about 20 passengers on the boat and Wayne was first in the water as was feeling a bit seasick and getting wet is the remedy. The snorkelling was stunning as the fish life was prolific and so so colourful. The tropical fish we in numerous colour and the coral was beautiful on the reef with purple corals and rainbow coloured fish ...
Zanzibar, Tanzania kasnsqueak... Mum Kate and the other Oasis group. They spent all their time in Kendwa and apparently Bars scored at the full moon party. Stu and Lou from the other truck hired a motor bike and cruised around the island on that. Wonderful way to see it apparently. Our last night was spent at a lovely restaurant overlooking the water, wishing we could stay just a little bit longer. It's been wonderful being off the truck and chilling, just the 4 of us. Felt like a holiday rather than travel.

Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania awakeandreaming... would be 75 slaves in each of these rooms prior to auction. Many died in these rooms. They were also kept in a hole in Dar es Salaam on the mainland prior shipment to Zanzibar for auction. The fish market was nauseating. They had tons of fish all over the place, including on the dirty floors (just look at the pictures). The spice farm was cool. They had ~40 different types of spices growing in a 3 acre farm. It was ...
Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania bradandsandiFinally a chance to sleep in. It has been a holiday of early mornings with the average being 5.15am. We sleep until 8am, have the hotel breakfast and do a spot of shopping before checking out at 10am. We wander around the streets of Stone Town and wander in and out of many local stores. I wanted to get off the tourist footpaths so we took a turn down an alley and headed away. We were completely lost in the ...
Zanzibar, Tanzania vonantmonch... on his still non-existant tan. Francis cruised through two books. The beaches are very nice, and good for relaxing on, though our favorite beach in the world is still Pulau Perhentian Kecil in Malaysia! It was entertaining to see some of the female tourists picking up local "beach boy" for a few days. Most of what we have seen on that front during our journey has been male travelers doing that sort of thing, so it was interesting to see the reverse here in TZ.
Stone Town, Zanzibar Archipelago, Tanzania thomasmb... big difference, though, is that while you almost never see a Thai NOT eating, you hardly ever see a Zanzibari eating! In Thailand, food is everywhere and people consume it everywhere and at all times. In Zanzibar, you really have to go looking for it - and even then it's not so easy to find. Obviously people must eat, but it doesn't seem to be as public as in Thailand. During my walk around Stone Town this afternoon, I was wondering what it would look like inside of these ...
