St. Barthelemy (or St Barths), a magical little island about 2 hours by boat from St. Maarten. Small houses, narrow streets, beautiful surrounding, baguettes, crystal clear water and great food... although it is quite pricey. As it is a French island, people speak French and it has a French touch. Many people go skinny dipping and most women are topless on the beaches.
The island had a bit ...
... We still enjoyed the sand and surf. And more importantly, we got to share these experiences with our baby. Not bad for having gone to the Caribbean within his first year of life. We braved as first-time parents, flying by ourselves, to an international destination, and that made us feel pretty good. So for our last day on the island, we drove around, exploring both the French and Dutch side ...
St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Maarten/St. Martin nofixedplans... about. The Tidal Wave Beach Bar is a relaxed place to have something to eat. I had some fresh mahi mahi and salmon tartare for lunch. The food is a bit pricey, but convenient. Le Galion is great for adults too. If you would like to windsurf, do some paddle boating, or even kayak, just rent from Tropical Wave.
... for us. Grand Marche in Philipsburg is an excellent supermarket. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to go here till our stay was almost over. But if you happen to need grocery and toiletry items, this is the place to shop. They carry several American brands of products as well as both French and Dutch items. I found all my baby needs here. They even have a separate area where they sell hundreds of cd’s from musicians both ...
St. Maarten/St. Martin, St. Maarten/St. Martin nofixedplans... an adventure we went. Captain Oliver’s Marina is just down the road on the French side where we found a neat harbor-side grill, a place to rent fishing poles, and boats galore. Once we had explored all the marina had to offer, including the talking parrots, it was time to eat.
Points be damned, cream sauce rules! We topped off the meal with desserts of homemade Apple Tart w/ vanilla ice cream (Cindy & ...
... point turned to us and said "Oh man I never win anything". For the final, grand prize of the night this year, we were all disappointed that a free week wasn't on the table. Instead Ingrid announced that a special piece of jewelry - a 2 carat sapphire worth $500 was the prize to be had. The announcer had all hold up their tickets as each number was slowly called, until only the last digit remained and most had dropped their ...
Oyster Bay Beach Resort, St. Maarten/St. Martin vershire... a bargain, Becky and Barb do the yeomans job of grocery shopping and head out to Le Grande Marche to get breakfast and lunch supplies for the week. Jeff and Cindy head to the beach!!! By the time Becky and Barb hit the beach the slow burn was well underway!! With snorkel mask in hand Jeff heads to the water to do some underwater fish watching. Barb, decked out in her new bathing suit proceeded to say she wouldn't burn today ...
Oyster Bay Beach Resort, St. Maarten/St. Martin vershire... of the crew on the boats and followed our captains commands as we did our assigned tasks. My wife and myself had moderate tasks to perform, but others had more difficult tasks. We were assigned our crew positions because we are in our 50's we assumed. It worked for us.
We started our race with the other boats and our boat was in 3rd-place most of the time. With the final leg of the race approaching, we were still in 3rd-place. Our captain called for a strategic and bold ...
Another British Island. Just a night stop over before we head across to the British Virgin Islands (BVI). We actually planned to head up to Dog Island just north of Anguilla and anchor for the night, so the passage to the BVI tomorrow wouldn't be so long. However, shortly after departing the wind was quite strong so we cut the trip short and headed for Anguilla. We anchored in a pretty bay with beautiful golden sand beach that ...
Rendezvous Bay, Anguilla bellavita... the party alive. On another note I confess I am guilty of wasting water but it takes so long to get warm and my husband can tell you there is noting I abhor more than a cold shower. And my final entry on my manic Monday in St. Maarten is this "the last price". What does this mean? Well according to the natives (well, Errol the waiter from St. Kitts) it's the password to start bargaining process with a store owner/ clerk on the price of an item. Go shopaholic go!
