... for example, I went to check out a Gaucho guitarist called Marcello Caminha and was surprised to hear him play many tango songs.

It just so happens that the annual feria do livros (book festival) is taking place while I´m here so I went to check it out. There were all sorts of books as far as the eye can see (but mostly in Portuguese). I was very happy to find a used copy of Catch-22 by Joseph Heller ...
Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil amitevron... things from the market, or jog, or just sit and drink chimarrao with friends and family. It's just such a happy city. Even when it's raining, people are still out and about, and the atmosphere still seems light. Anywho, I'm on my way to Brasilia, right now, and from there, I have one flight to Manaus. I have 2 days in Manaus, and then I'm home. I'm actually looking forward to going home. It will be nice to see people I know, and to get on with the things I need to get going with.

Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil ryanflemington... chimarrao, but I don't feel bogged down, like I usually do when I'm surrounded by people everywhere. There's space to move, and to breath. The city has one of the highest standards of living in Brazil, and it shows. People are very stylish, but it doesn't seem vain, or extreme. There is tons of awesome shopping, and there are parks and trees everywhere. The city is well worn, but it doesn't seem dirty, or grungy, and it doesn't smell. It's a very ...
Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil ryanflemington... many fascinating statues, and memorials. I went to the Mercado Publico, but it was obviously closed. I decided I would walk a few Km to the Rodoviaria, and buy my bus ticket to my next stop. Let me stop, to impart a lesson, here: Don't walk in industrial areas, on rainy sunday afternoons, in any Brazilian city. Never before have I been so grateful for being 6'4'', and a fast runner, because when that scowling man crossed the ...
Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil ryanflemington... and wait around for a night bus. However, this time, we had unholy hangovers and an extended period of 6 hours to wait from the time we left the hotel. We got a light buffet, and hung out in an icecream parlour for an hour or two and the thought struck us... what better way to kill time and relax that to get full body massages!! That brought us right up to getting a taxi to the bus station and we were both looking forward to some much needed sleep...
Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil willandmir... was to die for. It was wonderful to see firsthand where the organic produce I always try to buy comes from, and I truly got a sense for why it is so important to buy organic, for our bodies and the earth, and how worth the extra cost it is, especially after meeting the wonderful people who make it happen. For lunch that day we went to a special restaurant near the farm that also uses all natural ingredients and processes. We sat in a beautiful open air dining room, drinking ...

Porte Alegre, Brazil koutinka... she spends all the time with her family. Ideal, really...if you have a large enough income to be able to afford it. The family brainstormed on lists of things for me to see in order to experience southern Brazil. They couldn't be more accommodating and welcoming.

Fred and I were dropped downtown by the driver so we didn't have to worry about parking. It was 35 degrees Celsius, which is 95 degrees F. Walking was exhausting so it seemed a great ...
Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil lindseyhehman... so nice to see a familiar face. Its a sad feeling arriving at an airport with no one to greet you, I never get used to that. Frederico's house is very upper class in Brazil. Huge iron gates lock in his entire neighborhood and his home. His house is sort of a narrow condominium (with 5 floors) that is connected to about five others. They all share tennis courts, a futbol field, exercise room, a pool, a billiards hall, swing set, and a skate park. Keep in ...
Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil lindseyhehman... impossible for me to attend to any match... But as I had already decided to travel, it was not hard for me to decide the next destination: Europe! It has always been my dream to come here and to discover if what I knew was real or just a media product or something of that sort, so the decision was not hard at all! Well, to the trip now. My flight was booked for the morning of Thursday, April 14th, and I had to work during the night, from midnight to 08a.m ...
