Borneo day 9

A travel blog entry by ellie.t on Oct 11, 2015

We walked to Sandakan port to get our boat to Selingan Island part of Turtle Islands National Parks. The fast speed boat making sure we could outrun any pirate ships who may want to abduct a few tourists! Lol. We passed the sea village of houses on stilts and anchovy traps on the way. We arrived at the beautiful Selingan Island with lovely sandy beaches and crystal clear sea but incredibly hot and a sand fly and ...

We stayed in a resort where people did river cruises along the Kinabatangan River. ...

After leaving sandakan we headed to tawau and then on to the kapalai resort. This was in journey of a quick flight, a bumpy drive then a boat ride. Luckily when we arrived at the resort we were greeted with a warm welcome and a bit of paradise. The kapalai resort is based on stilts with only a sand bank coming visible at low tide. The water is crystal clear around the resort so you can sit there having lunch why watching the ...

With only a few more days left to burn I figured I had time for maybe one or two more highlights. So I reopened the Lonely Planet and checked out what they recommended. One of the remaining suggestions was scuba diving at the Semporna Archipelago. I hold an Advanced Open Water licence, but it had been about 4 years since my last dive in Africa...and this dive hadn't exactly gone to plan (I surfaced coughing up blood and which led to pneumonia: ...
