      ... volcano was huge, and in the distance you can see other islands that it created when it erupted. To get to the volcano we had to walk to the old port or you could take the cable car down, or a donkey ride. I didn't want to do a donkey ride so Geoff and I walked and my legs were shaking by the time we got down. We decided that paying for the cable car back up would be a good idea.       ... ships disembark their day release passengers (being on one of these tubs to me would be akin to being in jail) for tours etc. The old port area both at the top and down 583 steps is a hive of activity. As we arrive a large ship has weighed anchor with tender boats tethered like ants.       Santorini is one of those places I have always wanted to visit, and was high up on my bucket list. Who hasn't seen pictures of white painted, blue domed buildings set on a dramatic cliff, the landscape plummeting into the azure ocean below, framed by caldera views?
