We board the Hokuriko Shinkansen to Nagano at Tokyo Station. The Hokuriko Line was launched March 14, 2015, and connects Tokyo to Kanazawa. After the train arrives in Tokyo from Kanazawa a cleaning crew boards the train to clean it before passengers are allowed to enter. ... in the background. The castle in Matsumoto is pretty amazing. It was originally built in the 1400's but destroyed and rebuilt a few times til the version there is now. There are 6 floors but from the outside it only looks like 5 as one is hidden. We got to wander around inside carrying our shoes in plastic bags and wearing dodgy brown slippers. ... town without finding it. Oh well. We had a foot Onsen which was great to warm up our chilly toes. The water was very hot at the start of it as it was fresh out the pipe, we had to move down a bit where it was cooler. It was so nice to sit and warm up out feet before getting back on the train. ... stops and pretty easy to navigate. Ueno station was huge and we finally found the right ticket office to get out pass from. After this we went and got some food to take on the train for lunch. There was a place which had lots of choices so we got a mix, some gyoza, some rice with beans and some yakkitori chicken skewers. It was all lovingly wrapped in tons of plastic for the bin!
