The artist Nakajima lived here so we went to see his work mostly depicting cherry blossoms, but there were works by other artists that to our surprise included Ayers Rock (Uluru). When I told the tourism info office that I was staying at the Kanoe Inn above Togari Nozawaonsen, they were full of praise for this place as having good food and accommodations. They were not wrong! Woke early and caught a taxi to Ueno station. JR Shinkansen to Nagano, then electric train on the Nagano dentetsuline to Yudanaka. Walked up to our accomodation - Shimaya. Mr Yumoto is very helpful. He drove us to the snow monkeys, then we walked 1.6 km through the forest to see the monkeys. They were everywhere, little babies, sitting in the hot spring, picking nits from each other and ...

... others giving their feet a welcome break. The water is really hot and it takes me a couple of tries before I can immerse my feet into the hot water. The water has strong anti-bacterial powers with superior therapeutic and spiritual qualities.
