Had a perfect travel day yesterday. Actually got away early, 8:45, and had beautiful cold clear weather all day. It was only once we got close to Portland that we saw any snow at all and there it was only deep in the bush. But shortly after we stopped for the night the snow started. It looks like we got about 3" overnight. Luckily we're heading south! Had great Chinese food last night. Who knew we'd find it in Maine! Here's what morning looked like - winter ...

We both chose to go with a seafood dinner of prawns for entree and lobster ravioli for the mains. After dinner we headed back to our hotel for a rest before the midnight fireworks celebration over the harbour and to pack for the morning flight to Washington.

... we'd see something as that was heading towards the White Mountains. And this little conversation started the most lovely lovely day! We got the car and headed inland towards a town called Fryeburg, and as we headed inland we started seeing bits of snow on the sides of the road.... then a frozen lake.... and gradually all of the frozen parts appeared more and more, until we were surrounded by (icy) snow that had fallen a while ago but not melted. ...
... wasn't in a cupboard!! ********* A common thing we hear when ordering meals is 'What would you like for your starch?' Specifically.... would you like fries / potato etc. we all need our starch! *************** Road trip things.... We saw a 'watch for moose' sign! This highway speed was r75 mph .... with a minimum speed of 45mph!! Never seen a minimum speed before! Largest signs we saw were NOT the signs to exit the freeway.... but exits to buy lottery ...
... they also had a jewerly making room. they charge by the hour to use their equipment and also charge extra for bisquing and final firing. they also have a cafe attached to it with wonderful looking food and baked goods. it was nice to be there but i do miss my community college. and oh, portland has a trader joe's, we stocked up!!! randi and phoebe took a hike around casco bay in portland one day while i was playing with the clay and we ...
